Get a big fat chain or some other security! Is it parked on the road / drive or out of sight?

The steering lock is a laughably feeble form of security. Give the bars a hard shove with your foot and it'll bust the lock, leaving afore mentioned scrotes to wheel the bike away and piss about with it as they wish.

Cheers guys......

Its a spring/summer thing isn't it, right time of year. I was just thinking that about it today as well....massive relief they never took her completely, I would have been gutted if they'd just burnt her out after riding around on her

just be aware they know where the bike is and that its poorly secured, you need it sorted soon as they very likely may return.

how about buying a cheap alarmed padlock? doesn't have to be amazing, just bolt it on next to a chain or disk lock, soon scare them off if they do try again

Even the scum must think "ooh it's getting sunny, be nice two be on two (stolen) wheels".

Glad you got it back in relatively one piece, Thumbs Up.

Chain and disc lock all well and good, however I think a cover is just as worth it.

£20 bike cover from Argos keeps it out of sight and out of mind.

Bollocks.

You think because you're bike has a cover on it suddenly becomes invisible?

People who steal bikes are actively looking for them. A cover isn't some kind of cloaking device, it just stops you getting a wet arse in the morning when you take it off the bike after a rainy night/day.

Yeah but if people don't know if its a shitty old CG or a ninja, they're less likely to risk it, plus if theres a chain bolted through it then nothings gonna get it off shy of ripping it, which is gonna draw a bit of attention.

You don't fcuking say?

Rolling Eyes

If it's a team of blokes in a van there sod all a chain/cover whatever will do stop them taking it.

But having a cover on it at least stops most people eyeing it up and even having the thought. I bet the scroutes that saw OPs bike noticed it and thought why not, rather than set out to nick one.

Will do in future.....'fortunately' i was at my mates house and not my home address. Its parked out of sight on my drive at my house so it feels a lot safer.

The bit that annoys me most is that I have just passed my test and am about to advertise her for sale as i've bought an ER5. I'll have to get her sorted out first! Little rats.........

My GSX-R was parked on a drive with a car in front of it, covered, ground anchored, disc locked and alarmed.

It still went missing.

I bet the cover was the hardest thing to bypass...

if somebody has spied out your bike and planned to take it with mates and a van, nothings going to stop them, simple as. What you want to do is make it as difficult as fuck for them to take it smoothly and stop anybody who see's a bike and tries to walk off with it. People (if you can call them that) are less likely to go snooping under a cover if they don't know whats under it. Not worth getting busted for looking at something that could just be an old GS.

Well done on completely misunderstanding mine.

IF THEY WANT YOUR BIKE A COVER MEANS FUCK ALL.

One of the reasons my ninja is covered up. There are lots of bikes round here, and I bet opportunists driving past will give a covered bike a miss in favour of some of the other good stuff down the road.

But for when they eventually try and nick it, there's a steering lock, disc lock, fat chain and a bloody loud alarm. Short of chaining a Rottweiler to it I'm not sure what else I can do.

It's the Easter Holidays.
Happens every School Holiday the sun's out.
Bored little brats, locked out the house while mummy & daddy are at work, becouse of having thier mates round and breaking the surround sound, with the X-Box plugged in the TV turned up full wack on CoD.
Go looking for real world kicks, & little bikes are 'easy-meat'.
Daft thing is they always try atacking the ignition barely and wrapping random wires together in the hope of ;hot-wiring' the thing like they see in the movies... daftly most small bikes ignition is a make to kill circuit that earths the coil and if they actually knew what they were doing they would know they dont have to TOUCH the ignition lock... just pull teh right multiway connector apart!
Fact they were chased down the road is another clue these are not 'Pro's'. Pro would nick a bike to order; turn up with a van and a mate and it would be gone, & traveling at an inconspiciouse pace up the road in the back of said van, between two double matresses, with some-one in ear defenders, dissabling the alarm, and starting teh strip down process on teh way to the 'chop-shop'!

1/ dont rely on OE security
2/ dont rely on electronic security
3/ hard security starts with a disc-lock or U-Lock - but wont stop any-one lifting or wheeling away
4/ Chain-Down is where security starts, only thing that will detur a wheel-away, or slow a pro.

Nothing will STOP your bike being nicked IF an ardent Pro really wants it; all it can do is send them looking for easier prey.

Kids, who don't even know how to 'hot-wire' a YBR will not be dissuaded by anything but, chain-down... Its NOT the getting it that matters; its what they look like to thier mates TRYING.

And in that, doesn't matter if its a 'chitty' CG, a Direct Bikes 50cc Scooter, or a Vincent Rapide...

To THEM its just another end of level 'special challenge'

As said; they are not clued up, not tooled up, so even a cheap bicycle cable or lightweight lock & chain CAN be enough to dissapoint them.....

BUT if its there, they may still TRY..... and its the damage that they MIGHT cause in that trying that is often as anoying as actually getting away with it.

And for THAT, a Cover CAN actually be helpful as it does make the bike less overtly obviouse; and lifting the cover the first need of 'balls' they cant stand and peer and get ideas, they HAVE to commit to the attempt lifting cover off first to even SEE what they might do.

Its not HARD security, but it IS a psycological deterant.
