Hey Guys,

I'm looking at getting into bike racing...I've seen that there's a "Tommy Hill Track and Race Academy" set up and I could do that at a few circuits I've been to before.

Sounds really cool, do you think it's worth it? Has anyone done it already?

https://www.trackandraceacademy.co.uk/

Cheers,

What group do you ride in trackdays?

I'm not sure any look that great value considering some of the other ways you could spend your money.

Normally ride in Intermediate groups.

Yea, I mean...looking on the website, it says it's £435 for a full day with Tommy being at the event. I was hooked on BSB last season so I think that's what drawing me towards it a lot haha. Very Happy

How far up in inters are you?

I'd generally advice to be at a reasonable pace in fast before considering racing - merely because trackdays are a load 'better value for money' than racing - as you get faster however, you start to run out of people to chase on trackdays - then I'd suggest considering starting racing 'proper'.

It's possible that the 'Track Acadamey' may help - but if you spent that same time and money on a couple of trackdays with a copy of 'Twist of the Wrist II' you may well find the same benefits.

it seems quite expensive, I can't comment on whether or not is worth while.

there also the british superbike school at blyton in linconshire which is a bit cheeper

Really confident in Intermediate groups, haven't booked up an Advanced trackday yet...might do that first. Cheers.

Yea, was looking at that Track Academy option too.

Just looked at the British Superbike School link...that one looks rubbish compared to the one with Tommy Hill. Looks like a lot more is covered and I'd get my license at the end.

The BMCRC 'race school' covers most of the stuff in the Tommy Hill one it seems; when I did it, it cost £150 I think, but prices have gone up since then no doubt (2005).

Most of what is 'covered' is general information you can get for free on the internet - at least as far as the riding/racing stuff goes.

Don't know if I'd feel confident enough from reading it on the net...think I'd prefer to have someone there that knows what they're doing who can show me how to do things properly. Might end up interpreting stuff the wrong way and wanna make sure I get it right... Confused

Just found that Trackday Trophy comp on google...that looks wicked...might think about that...my Uncle's got a race license and was thinking about getting us into some sort of series.

Really wanna get my ACU license done quick so I can prep my bike and start racing! Very Happy

The r6s are best 600s to race with, if you want tuition like that then I suggest the chris walker race school, you get 5 sessions, practice starts and then a Mock race at the end of the day and its in the 300 something price bracket so alot more bang for you buck and its on a new zx6r with racefit cans Cool

also trophys go out to who improved the most in one day doesnt matter how fast you are to begin with.
all based at mallory if you are super quick there then come dip your toes at EMRA and you might surprise yourself Very Happy

The idea of right and wrong, like your user name, is rather 'fluffy'.
Right for one person may be wrong for another - lap times and long term improvement are the real judge of what works and not.

Someone that knows what they're doing may well not know what you're doing.

Plenty of people are happy just "going racing", but for plenty it ends up with a disillusioned waste of money and time because they're so focused on the goal of 'racing' they've forgot it's supposed to be fun.
