Need some Paddock Stands for the Hornet, and wondering if anyone can offer me any suggestions for a decent one/set at a reasonable price.

I bought one for my NSR last year and the thing fell to crap, so I don't want a generic one from ebay if I can help it.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Dont buy the silver oxford front stand, its a broken design, the fork holder points are on threaded rod, but each side has the same direction thread, so the weight of the bike tightens one and loosens the other, its completely retarded, i sent their customer service an email but never heard back. Buy something else!

for reference, this is the one I have:

I'm glad you've mentioned that. I've always thought I was spacker as I couldn't work out how to use it. I had it with the rear stand from M and P and to be honest I've never used it.

+1

Costs a bit more but easy to use on your own and can
use to get both wheels off the floor with a bit of savvy.

the ABBA stand is great but its handy to have a paddock stand to quickly throw the rear of the bike up for doing the chain.

using an ABBA stand takes seconds, can't see the logic in what you are saying

I bought a cheapy from Busters eBay shop.

One of the red ones that you put together yourself. Highly recommend not getting one similar.

They bend and twist so the bike can lean from side to side just by pushing the bike with your finger.

Next time I will spend some decent money and get something sturdy, like one of the chunky MotoGP ones!

but it takes many more seconds than literally popping a bike on a paddock stand.

I own and use both, and only use the ABBA for 'larger' jobs

if your bike doesn't have a centre stand then they are useful for general maintainence / various tasks requiring the rear wheel to be off the deck. can also be used in conjuction with a front stand to lift the entire bike.

I've been thinking lately about getting an abba stand, i have a few jobs coming up where i need to raise the front of the bike up.

Its a shame they are so pricey (or am i just a skinflint..?)

No, they are pricey. £90ish for the stand, then £20 each time you need a new set of adapters. BUT, its far more secure than a paddock stand, and supremely easy to use, you can do the whole thing one handed in less than a minute FFS!

Stupid question, but where exactly does the ABBA stand slot into on the 99 Hornet? I like the design, but I wanna make sure it's gonna fit my bike before I get one.

Abba stands fit into the swing arm pivot points. The great thing about them is that you can remove any part of the rear suspension which you can't do with a paddock stand.

I've just looked, the fitting kit for your bike is only £9.95! It was £18 for my Triumph. Evil or Very Mad

I have the adaptors for my street triple, wifeys ER6 and for my busa from when I had it so it does get a bit pricey but worth it if you do your own maintenance.

I also agree with Sako, I throw my bikes on a paddock stand to do minor maintenance rather than get the abba stand out. If you have bobbins permanently fitted it is quicker and easier!

I have the ABBA stand with kits for my Shiver and the wife's 696. I absolutely love it.

There's just one thing. When we bought it at the NEC show the wife used their demo to get the R1 up and down with ease. Last week she had a go on the 696 and struggled at first. I then realised that because the 696 is such a low bike there's quite a lot of effort required. The back wheel when up on the stand is miles off the floor. The reason being that the distance between the swingarm pivot and the floor is significantly less than the distance between the ABBA mount point and the floor when it is in the vertical position.

She can do it by herself but it requires significantly more effort than my Shiver which has quite a high up swingarm pivot point.

Lowering it back down is also quite involved on the 696 as it takes a fair bit of strength to stop the bike crashing back down to the ground before you've had chance to lower the sidestand.

I still love it and recommend it over any generic paddock stand. Just be aware that if you (or anyone else considering one) has a low bike then you'd better be in reasonable shape strength wise.

Dae.

We've been using these : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-ALUMINIUM-ALLOY-FRONT-REAR-PADDOCK-STANDS-SET-/190563118295?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c5e726cd7
for the TZR and Powervalve, needed some in a hurry so took a chance, have to say I'm impressed, I wouldn't want to put a gold wing up on them but they coped with the ZX9 pretty well.

ABBA stand, without a doubt the best but you don't always want to use it, as far as cheapies go these are pretty good. The purple Micron rear stand I've had for twenty years has to be mentioned as well, it's done pretty good even though it's a bit bruised these days
