Just took my old man out on the back of the bike for the first time and he loved it. Then had a blast on my own and everything coming together..... only to find a bastard screw in the tire.

Anyone know whether tires can be patched on bikes or is it game over and time for a new set?

The tires is pretty much brand new! Bloody gutted.

I hope it's the same as cars where they can be patched. If you know the can be patched any idea on cost?

They can plug them if the screw has gone straight in. Normally an easy enough job. I had 3 nails removed from my previous rear tyre. They plugged it and a few months later it went through the MOT and passed, I got an advisory because the tyres were nearing their limit but the plugs passed.

If the screw is at an angle then you're pretty much buggered.

The screw has gone in on very slight angle it's gone in at like 86degree angle pretty much straight it and 2 inches to the right of centre.

It has not gone into the tread.

How much are plugs?

Funnily enough I dropped my new rear up to the local shop because I had what looked like a nail in it. Turned out to be a bit of flint and had not gone through the tyre but a plug from there would have cost £25.

You can get DIY kits online but I would contact the local place and get them to do it.

I found a screw in my tyre the other day. Took it out and checked for any leaking, none at all. Took it up the garage and the guy agreed that it looked fine, and I've been riding on it since. You never know, it might be fine. Thumbs Up
