I have been looking for a wee bike project recently and was looking for something cheap (preferably a dirt bike) however I recently found this on ebay and was wondering what everone thought of it.

It needs a bit of work done but nothing major (I dont think) but there are a few things which doesn't seem right about the bike....

The seller seems legit with his feedback, etc and has given a good description but dont know if it is too much of a risk or not.

Should I stay well clear or place a bid?

(Dont know how much I should bid because I am not looking to spend too much - so there is a good chance that I wont win the auction anyway).

With that much feedback I'd trust it, picking it up and paying cash can't hurt.

That looks like a great deal aesthetically BUT CX500 engines can hide a number of expensive failiures. Expect camchains and stators to be gone, which is an engine out job. if you're willing to buy the bike in expectation of an engine drop then go for it, the rest of it looks great. I really like CX500s, but I couldn't be dealing with a 30,000 mile stator life...

If you ever intend on insuring it and your under 40 then don't bother. Its on a Q plate and most places wont touch it.

some poor mug did you a favour.

Trust me, much better bargains come up on ebay than a plastic maggot with no V5 and an unexplained q plate, even if its cosmetically very tidy.

Cheers
John

exactly, 80s and early 90s 4 bangers are cheap all year around so long as youve got some mechanical skill and arent picky.

xj600s/900s, gpz/zzr/gsx/fj/fzr all goes cheap needing minor mechanical work. I got a 95 gsx600f for 250 quid as a non runner, gave it new plugs, fresh fuel, a new battery and a front brake overhaul and it passed mot a week after i bought it, been running great since.

Patience chap, good things come to those who wait.

Cheers
John
