ive been looking for a little scooter for a run around.

seen one today that I like.

But the VIN comes up as invalid on VIN checking sites.

The scooter is nearly 5 years old, has the VIN on the latest MOT certificate
and when checking online for the MOT history it all matches up.

The direct.gov vehicle enquiry all matches up, to the type of bike, reg, colour
etc etc and when using the document reference from the V5 it come back as
valid and gives an issue date the same as its on the V5

Something just doesn't seem right, even though everything matches up bar
the VIN coming back as invalid on the VIN checking sites.

Should I pass up and find something else?

Cant check the V5 at the momens, as im not at the sellers place anymore, just went to have a look and take a few of the numers down.

Ive used a couple of VIN decoder sites, one that does come back with something is

https://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp

and it comes back with.

I could not find an exact match for this VIN in my database.
Please verify that the VIN you entered is valid. Read below for additional information about vehicle identification numbers and their validity.

1980

VIN:
LPRSE4110xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Check sum validation failed
World region:
Asia

Manufactured in:
China

Year:
1980

A quick google of the first 11 digits comes up with a few parts for the model in france and some of the bikes for sale in china.

Would a HPI come back with the VIN number on it?

The key phrase is

If the VIN on the bike matches the V5 and the MOT I can't see what the problem is, it means DVLA have it and have accepted it, whether other places have it or not makes no odds and doesn't make it suspicious.
