If you don't know the size of the bore then you need to measure it. The +'x' is merely for barrels that have been rebored, for example a +0.50 piston kit is for a barrel that has been rebored to +0.50mm. If you don't know the full history of the bike then measure the bore before you order a kit.

Hi

Not only the rings, but also the piston will be a different size. Cheats way to do it is to take the head off and check the size of the existing piston (stamped on the top 99% of the time).

All the best

Keith

Doesn't work every time though, my rs had a 49.99mm piston and the new one was a 50mm piston.

Bit worried about doing that as I don't think it has been off before and doing might make the existing ring fall to bits, and even maybe into the cylinder Confused

You do not have to take the barrel off (although if you just take the head off you will have to replace the head gasket). To change the piston you will have to remove the barrel, and if the rings are already broken such that they might fall off into the engine when you remove the barrel then you are likely to wreck the barrel if you continue to run the engine now. The ends of the rings would be quite likely to score the barrel.

All the best

If you taking the barrel off don't forget to stick some rags down the crankcase mouth incase the rings are broken.

while we're on this subject, I have a CG125 which needs reboring and a new piston (it got seized up). The only piston I could get hold of is .75 oversize, so will it be ok if I just send the barrel to be rebored as long as they know what size the piston is? and how much would it cost?

cheers

i was going to start a new topic but i saw this and thought it would go better in here. someone tell me if i shouldn't have done.

Hi

Yes it will be fine, except that you are wasting a couple of rebore sizes. They will probably want the new piston with the barrel to do a good job of boring it.

All the best
