I'm sick of my shitty pinlock, it only works if i adjust it with the visor closed and then lock the visor in place, as soon as i open the thing the pinlocks dont keep enough pressure on the inner visor thus mist in my lid.

Everyone has had to deal with this at one point and other than holding your breath, what was the best soloution?

Poll added.

EDIT: My skid lid is a shoei XR1100

Try washing the visor and the pin lock in warm soapy water. Rinse well, again in warm water. Dry the faces that are to be placed together slightly then install the pin lock in the visor.

Should improve the seal between the two a bit and may cure your problem.

The gap created when opening and closing the visor is greater than 5mm so it wont really help. I've tried alot of different things like flattening the insert again so it pushes against the pins more but again, didnt help with the same problem.
I want to buy a black visor at some point without pinlock posts.

I got a pinlock free with my shoei raid 2. Didn't like how the top of the pinlock was in my line of sight, so took it out and bought a foggy mask. I would really recommend it, never steams up and keeps my nose warm in winter Cool

That's really odd! Did you fit it yourself? Sounds like the pins are positioned incorrectly... Only ever had the pre installed and they've been perfect. What kind of lid?

-I've used Fog City inserts in my previous (AGV V-Flyer) lid - a standard one in the dark visor, and a Hyper Optiks insert in my clear visor.
Both worked faultlessly for the 4-5 year life of the helmet, and I'd happily have them again.
However, my current lid has suffered a couple of pretty severe scratches across the visor, so it looks like it's going to be a replacement visor before I start thinking about any more Fog Citys in preparation for the summer.

-No experience with Pinlocks to date, but I've heard good things from those that use them.

-As for Foggy masks, I bought one some years ago, but could never get a comfortable, effective fit with the AGV lid, so its been returned to a cupboard drawer, unused, still with its original packaging

Sounds like you need to adjust the pins holding the pinlock in place.
remove the pinlock and turn the pins on the visor 180 degrees, then refit the pinlock.
Ive used them on several helmets and if fitted correctly they've never fogged up.
But the one in my avg does obscure my vision slightly around the edges at night if im crouched down looking out the top of the visor.

Just pulled out my old shoei kit, i have some spare pins (black ones) and noticed the ones in the fucking visor are loose? excessive play side to side but if i pinch the top washer in they lock against the visor but a bit of wiggling later they come loose again, should i pull them out and put my new pins in? or will they just do the same, im well shit with this stuff lol.

getting a bit pissed off here, just fitted the new posts in the visor which are cunts btw, and one of them has gone loose again meaning that the fucking thing doesnt contact the insert propperly creating the gap as soon as i fit the visor to the helmet, pinlock for me are fucking useless tbh, think i'll just go back to fog city.
Looks like i'm not alone either.

When I wore contact lenses, I had a pinlock but I remember how easy it was to scratch and when refitting, how difficult it was to seat properly and make a good seal - would often get moisture building up between it and the visor. When it worked, it was great.

Now I've gone back to wearing glasses so a pinlock is useless. I've got a foggy mask and that does quite a good job. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones with the 'right' shaped face. I find it quite comfy and it fits well.

I've voted other:

My Suomy Vandal's visor is simply anti-fogged on the back without all this fussing about with inserts. And cheaper than visor+pinlock.

My Shoei Qwest with pinlock is just not as good at staying clear and the insert picks up scratches too easily with even the gentlest of cleaning. And when it does steam up between the 2, it's a lot harder than just opening the visor a crack to clear.

I really don't understand why all visors aren't like the Vandal's.

I use a Foggy mask, but that's mostly due to the fact its my glasses that steam up way more than the visor.

Like neil, I find the foggy comfy, but it did take a lot of fannying about to fit it to my Shoei Hornet...

Voted for pin lock as the one I have now on my Nolan works a treat.
Just the glasses that mist up Rolling Eyes

But either way there is no way to stop a visor steaming up as its just never going to happen with warm mosit air on the inside and cold air on the outside....
So crack visor open a few m/m and all is fine.

Fog City stick-on worked for me, a (very) slightly cheaper no-name knock off didn't. Correct fitting is vital though, it has to follow the curve of the visor tightly or you get nasty visual artifacts

I found the pinlock when it worked, worked well. But had issues when not sealed properly, and getting a perfect seal seemed to be difficult, and touchy (it would de-seal as soon as I opened the visor).

Have switched to a foggy mask and found it works very well - a bit of fiddling about with the placement was necessary at first to get a reasonably tight fit against my face, but since then it's "just worked" and continues to "just work" if have sunglasses inside the lid, which a pinlock didn't.

If I start to have issues when it's very cold, I may put the pinlock back in (as the posts are still there) and see how it works in tandem with the mask, but so far have seen no need.

I find foggy masks to be great when they are fitted in the right position, although this can take some trial and error, stops misting completely and keeps more heat in the helmet.
However they don't work so well with some liners as they dont stick so when you pull your head out it comes of and leaves velcro scratches on your face! Works brilliantly with my AGV though.

Pinlock here. Works pretty good, so ordered another for dark visor, as that steamed up like a beach on my first exhale.
Put new pinlock insert in dark visor, again - everything is sweet. Helmet is a Nolan and the insert has a silicone beading seal. Thumbs Up
Definitely recommend.

Depending on which of my lids I decide to wear, either Pinlock or Foggy. Both work well TBH. Pinlock can get in the way of your vision very occasionally, foggy sits on your face slightly so both have minor irritations if you are that way inclined.

Personally, if I can see out of my visor and breathing in winter doesnt cause a massive mist up, I am happy.

Voted Other as my HJC FS11 visor is anti fog and it works wonderfully.

Will however be getting a darker pinlock insert though.
