Balls.

I have barely ridden my bike scince it got stolen repeatedly last year, the dealers have screwed me out of an exhaust system, and my bikes still a total mess. Its mostly sat in the garden looking rough scince September'ish last year? Got all the tax letter through today, I gotta insure it in May, and my CBT's going to run soon. Balls.

I pulled it out last night, gave it a look over, gave it a run. The frame has a lot of surface rust, the gear levers bent (but works), the fairings are a state (might be able to stich them up / repaint them), the ignitions hanging off, the grips are shredded (both sides) the steering doesn't quite go all the way to the right, the back seats locks broken, and the exhaust needs replacing.

Its not actually that bad is it?Most of it just needs some TLC / elbow grease. I mean the only things I need to replace are the gear lever and the exhaust. Gear lever is £40 from Urban Quad, exhaust is... Not a clue...

Need your help on this BCF Embarassed

How in blue buggery do you find out if an exhaust fits your bike? There is a link below to my specific model. A new stock exhaust is about £175. For that money I can take my pick from a lot of non stock exhausts by the look of it. It has a Yam YBR engine in I believe, so can I fit any YBR exhaust to it? Anyone got any recommendations for what to put on? I just want it to go so I can book and pass my test by the end of May. Do not care how it looks (the bike is currently a mess anyway). Just want it fit to do a test on.

Le bike : https://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/rieju_rs2_pro_125_black_edition_2008.php 2010 model.

Thanks gang! Mr. Green

If its using the YBR engine, you could use the YBR exhaust, get it cut and add an end can so not to ruin the sporty look (would also probably make it easier to mount)

Nice one for actually getting back on it... haven't seen you post in a while Thumbs Up

Thanks Paddy. I take it 'get it cut' means I cant just buy a whole system and stick it on Lego style onto my bike?

Seriously not worried about sports styling Smile Just want it test (/MOT come to think of it) passable.

MarJay will arrive soon regarding lego.

Cut it, just grab the YBR exhaust, you probably wont want the silencer as it would be a pain to mount (might not though...)

Why does your exhaust need replacing? if it's just got a small hole, patch it with some thin metal plate and some gun gum.

It sat at a dealers 'damp' warehouse and more or less the whole bike rusted due to condensation rust? When they tried to give me back the bike the forks had rusted so badly they couldnt turn them at all (or even get the cup off for that matter).

The exhaust itself has just rotted through all over.

Dealers feckerd my bike good and proper.

Edited to add

The exhaust was feckerd by the dealers, as has the tank cover and a few other things. But it also spent 2 months sitting in a muddy ditch at Northolt the last time it got stolen.

Happy bike didn't have a happy year 2011.

I had one on my CBR125, sounded nice, unsure if any power was increased...but it felt a bit nicer to ride than on the standard setup.

Nai, I honestly reckon that you're going to have to give up on this one. If it's as badly rusted as all that, and a lot of hard-to-source parts need replacing, then I don't see it being economically viable.

Go over the rusted bits with a wire brush (not the fork stanchions - they don't like scratches), see how deep the rust goes. If it looks like it's started eating into things like the frame properly, then get a different bike. Preferably one that's got comprehensive parts support, and that won't attract the attention of thieves so quickly.

Otherwise, be prepared to drop a fair bit of money, and a helluva lot of time on it. Personally, for a 125, I'm not sure that I would.

If you're trying to get back into things, you might find a change in bike is what kickstarts your interest again rather than try and battle on with a bike that you've had problems with/had stolen.

Unless projects are what inspire you, perhaps it's worth considering finding something you could jump on and ride about straightaway?

I should add, the forks themselves got replaced by the dealer. The tank and exhaust they left me with. The frame itself is mostly surface rust. Mild scrubbing removes it.

<Sulky kid mode on>

An unfortunate case of first bike, first love. I absolutely loved the bike. I enjoyed it far more than test rides on all the big name brand bikes. Happy to spend a couple of hundred quid on it to have it go again. I have wanted to give her a paint and stuff for ages.

Dont make me sell her. I... I... I loved her.... Crying or Very sad

<Sulky kid mode off>

I do understand what your saying, and if much goes wrong after the exhaust, I will reconsider. But mechanically she feels alright otherwise. Forks, sub frame, and engine all replaced between 8,000/9,000 miles. She is half a new bike already.

I would cut your losses or use this for parts

But personally, up on ebay, spares or repairs for a couple of hundred quid, then do you test and buy a bigger bike, I loved my RS125, but after it blew up and needed a fair bit of work, I just cut my losses and sold it.

Nai, get some photos up.

I spent oodles of money on my first bike, it was worth around £600, but I happily spent whatever on it, because I truly loved it Mr. Green

Get some photos up. I'm not too close to you, but I'll happily help you out if you fancy getting it stripped down and rebuilt/cleaned up.

Looked like a nice bike in 2010 at BBQ.

Do this!

You seem to have a bit of an internal struggle going on with this bike, if your CBT is due to run out soon have you considered doing your full licence? That might inspire you to do something with the happy bike or at least get you motivated? But hey, doing up bikes is a huge learning experience and helps you to feel more connected to a bike. That sounds a bit lame but you put your own personal touches onto it and it really becomes "yours".

Will get some pics up . Got theory thingy test done. Have you tried booking a Mod 1 for a Saturday? Bit of a long wait Neutral Want to get Mod 2 done before insurance comes up for renewal, but need to have exhaust sorted first.

Some pics.

To me most of this looks cosmetic. Theres one image showing the back infront of the rear wheel. Thats the worst 'worry' spot with the rust. Everything else looks like spots that scrub-able.

The paint on the tank was where my dealer took the tank off, left it upside down, and apparently the paint went funny and peeled off. Bloody good dealer...

Plenty of bumps and scraps. As far as accident damage is concerned, the 3rd time it got stolen it was in 2 multi vehicle collisions, and caused a third. It rode fine after, just had some bent bits.

The 5th time it went walkabouts I had fitted an alarm to the battery, simple one, the thief popped the back seat off, disconned the battery, wheeled it off. The panniers / tail pack hold down the back seat. Please don't laugh....

The 7th / 8th time it went walkabouts (the last time) I didn't see it for 2 months, and as above, it turned up in Northolt, in a ditch, 2 months later.

The grips! The right hand side looks like its hit the road at speed. The ends bent off the rubber. Doesnt show so well there. The left side has been sliced with a knife longways? Its still stuck onto the bar. Its to clean cut to be accident damage though surely.

Ride wise, it works. It runs. It zips about. Its noisy and you can hear the air popping from the exhaust. Its occasionally cutting out on idle (when it does, always sounds like the exhaust is popping and gargling).

I have air coming from the where the end can should join onto the exhaust pipe, the bottom of the pipe, and up near where the pipe bends into the engine.

The whole front end is off the basic model. It spent 3 months at the dealer waiting for a new engine. They butchered a basic model bike just to give me something back (which was unacceptable, but they didn't tell me about all the problems it had developed scince leaving it with them).

Time to sit down and do some sums.

How much money you have avaliable vs how much you want to spend. It looks perfectly doable from the pictures but its really up to you how much time and cash you want to throw at it. It would benefit from a damm good scrub down and probably a good service too. Then as you said its all the cosmetic stuff. Exhaust and gear lever should be at the top of your "to do" list Thumbs Up

I reckon if I had that in my flat, £100 and a week or 2.. it would look fine.

Personally I think you NEED an exhaust, need to sort the footpegs/levers and maybe a little list of small bits and some painting/rust removal and prevention.

I reckon £100 is do-able with time. Quite possible I reckon... send me a PM.. I have a few ideas..
