Hello,

I went to take my Bike out after not using it for around a month. It started, but then cut out. The neutral light comes up but when I push the starter button it just makes a clicking noise.

I have charged the battery but is still just clicking?

Would anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks.

Drain the carb, clean the spark plug, try another battery.

In that order!

Thumbs Up

Have you tried bump starting it?

Failing that use the pedals Mr. Green

Charging the battery and it still clicks... jump start from a car/bump start.

Drain the float bowl and let it fill up.

Clicked over and over is sign of dead battery....

Bump start it, if that doesn't work replace the battery. If that doesn't work then i'd be looking for fueling/sparking issues. For example not running the bike has probably allowed shit in the tank/carbs to settle and your getting poor fuel flow etc..

Fairly certain I know what the problem is, you don't need a new battery!

It's your starter motor.. Get a little bit of wood and a hammer and gently tap it, then turn ignition on and hit the button.

The brushes could be sticking so a little tap just free's them up, it's exactly what fixed mine.

Hope this helps! Thumbs Up

He's just been riding the bike so that should of freed the starter motor if it was sticking I would of thought.

Nah, they still play up! Seems to be a bit hit or miss, once I've had a nice rideout it starts on the button fine, but say then you came out to the bike the next day, 'Click' Thumbs Down

I'm fairly certain this is the problem, may need a clean.

But worth getting the hammer out first before a new battery Twisted Evil

lol Thumbs Up

Yeah it's doing the same as what the Honda CG is doing in that video.

Should I follow that video and try and fix it myself? If it's an easy fix that is.

I will also try the things people have suggested as well.

Thanks.

There is 3 bolts to get it undone but do I need to clean it with anything once I take it off?

Open it up, possible its loaded with dirt and shit.

If its brushes look worn, give them a quick rub with light sandpaper. If they look worn to the point of no return, need to replace them (2nd hand starter motor is probably cheaper..and I may have one...)

It should be located near your battery yes.1 live goes to your starter motor, the other to your + side on the battery. Thats why i posted the image for you. Look for two 10mm nuts. Sometimes they will have rubber cap on them, but it will be near your battery.

If you want to see if it is your starter motor you can try to jump it. If you get two bits of wire and connect this to your starter motor terminals and then touch the other 2 ends onto your batterys (+ & -). (make sure its not in gear) You do not need ignition on either.
If the starter is ok the thing will spin. Do not keep the wires on there, just touch it on and off the battery.
if it dont spin its your starter motor, if it does spin its your starter solenoid or wires to it. Thumbs Up

Uhuh, direct to the + side.

You are near Hastings right? If I'm free this weekend and you have nothing to do I can happily come have a look/you can bump and ride to Maidstone and I'll see if my spare fits.

Bolt wise, should be able to wiggle it...perhaps a light tapping with the bottom of a screwdriver will aid it.
