So I think it's probably about time I buy some leathers for riding with, I want to get a nice looking set that won't set me back much.

So - does anyone know of any decent leathers that look good and that a student could afford? I love the look of the Alpinestars stuff but it is pretty expensive.

Only you know what you like.

I got a 1 piece from J&S recently it was one of the cheapest at £299

I know race leathers on ebay have some cheaper. However I went to J&S and got to try them on and found the ones I liked.

Yeh I'm going to pop down to J&S this weekend and try on some kit, I might need to spread the stuff over a couple of paydays I think Smile

Ideally want to go white / black and get some new boots / gloves.

For £300 or less, my money would be going on good quality second hand leathers. You can pick up a near mint, little worn dianese/arlen ness/alpine stars suit for that money easily.

Id be far happier with a big name 2nd hand than i would a brand new cheapy....

Yep, second hand is the way forwards, i got a 10 year old Dainese two piece zip together suit which is in fine condition, with lots of armour and stuff for £40, so even if it means you buy a new suit every two years or something it still works out cheaper

I've got a set of RST Slice 2-piece.

Come with CE approved armour at knees, elbows, shoulders and CE back protector (unlike a lot of more expensive leathers). Most of the RSTs come with the back protector although some of them don't.

Will be considering a 1-piece as well in the future, probably the Tractech or Tractech R.

I love the Alpinestars too, but they're so much more expensive than the RST and you get even less for your money with some

Is there any shops which will sell second hand leathers or is it a case of looking on ebay and hoping they'll fit?

I just bought a new set today, it's RST splice from hein gericke, I got black and white. It's in catalogue (and online at 349 for 2 piece set) but I haggled with the salesman and got both for £297. It's really comfy, has a years warranty and I got to try and order exact size for me too! Also got matching gloves too. Seems well made. I've had some RST pants off my dad and he'd worn them loads and I've worn them for a year too and they're still in great condition so I'm pretty confident the new set will stay than way too! Can't link you sorry as I'm on iPhone, but look for RST leathers on hein gericke website!

Second hand from eBay. Mine cost next to nothing and fit perfectly, find out your size from a store and then hunt online. Thumbs Up

Anyone heard of Nexus? Seem to make pretty decent looking jackets at fairly reasonably prices (£100 a pop).

+1 on the Slice. Decent quality, not a bad price. Wouldn't buy extremely cheap (probably Chinese) leathers as when the time comes to use them - don't wanna take chances.

Cheap will cut corners... leather is leather and if it's thick enough then it should be ok... it'd be the stitching that I would be more worried about, cheap thread and single or double seamed it will be much more likely to burst open as you hit the ground.

Set of leathers that are no longer held together at the seams are about as useful as a bucket with holes in
