Well recently picked up this project a few weeks ago. Planning on getting a new seat cover, spraying the damaged side panel, and maybe painting the wheels. Needs a new stainless exhaust system soon too.

I'm just interested to know what you lot think shes worth in her current state, and maybe what she's worth once finished.

It's a zzr600 1995 model. 35k on the clock. Smile

Thanks

MOT'd & Taxed, ready to ride? As it stands? £350-£450ish
No tax & test, free to £250ish
Scrubbed up, & looking good? £600 tops.

ZZR's aren't that sort after. They are a bargain basement all-rounder. People looking for them want 'cheap'.. and worry about things like the header pipes and shcok linkage, rather than whether the end can has the right name on it, as they aren't so cheap if they have been sorely neglected with so much out of sight, out of mind behind those hard to get off fairings.

To be brutal; for the market these sell in, painting it up & making it pretty probably wont add value to it! Honest 'wear and tear' probably more 'atractive', than an obviousely non-standard 'tart-up' paint job.

Ah that's cool. Yeah I got it super cheap so £600 odd is a good tidy profit. I'll probably keep it though TBH.

Cheers.

I have a 2000 model and love it. It does everything i need it to, and it does it fast. Its such an underrated bike, which is a shame.
If you decide to keep it, its worth putting some time and effort into servicing the front brakes, cos they are really shite and seize up for their own amusement. They are known for suffering problems with jumping out of 2nd gear, though mine is absolutely fine despite its 36k miles. Oh, and keep the chain well adjusted and lubed or it can get very clunky.
Apart from that, just enjoy riding it - you wont be disappointed.

I take it your previous bike was a DNA50?

I've ridden one and I honestly think my Bandit 6 would blow one of these into the weeds.

They're cheap and cheerful, because they're wank.

the ZZR would have been a shagged one then to make a b6 seem fast.

There must've been something wrong with the one you were riding (or it was the earlier d model rather than the e) for you to think that. I went from a zzr6 to an xjr1200 and I really doubt that the xjr would keep up after 120...

Drop fatjames a pm, he is breaking one.

I know he has stainless downpipes (very nice ones) and a seat for sale. Think he has a nice rear shock too,

Bear in mind that the ZZR600 was the fastest 600cc production bike in 1993, and the first 600 to hit 150mph. It wasn't initially designed to be the sports tourer that they kept it on as.

The ZZR you rode definitely had issues or perhaps it was restricted or you just didn't rev it enough. I couldn't blame you for the latter. Perhaps the B6 has more grunt at lower revs.

They most definitely aren't slow. But they are not up to today's standards.

Brakes are bad in terms of having to overhaul them, bleeding can be a pain, rear shock is bad, downpipes rot. Definitely not slow though.

Their biggest problem is they are hard to justify getting rid of if you do decent mileage due to their low value and being good solid bikes that are plenty fast.

I have no idea what a DNA50 is.
Personally, I don't go around trying to blow anything into the weeds, but as others have already pointed out, I suspect the one you rode may have had some issues if it was slow.

My own ZZR is perfectly able to keep up with mates on other 600+cc machines on ride-outs, and is certainly quicker than some of them.
It starts on the button first time every time, the handling is very sweet and forgiving, even at speed, and its pretty good on fuel economy too. Not sure it deserves to be called 'wank' really, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course.

I agree aswell, they certainly arent slow bikes. I rode one that looked a bit knackered so i wasnt expecting great things but to be fair it went like stink.

Well I rode an old K reg one, not sure what model that is.

May have been the fact that the last bike I'd owned/ridden was an RR-W Blade, and before that a K4 GSX-R1000 but I found the engine terrible. Had absolutely no go until about 7-8K and even then it didn't have much of a kick, I just found it sedate, hardly something I'd call that quick. I didn't get on with the handling either, just found the thing a lump, and not something I'd fancy trying to hustle on much. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

It may have been that the one I rode was a turd, to be honest I was expecting a lot more after owning a ZXR400, and thinking that this would be it's faster, bigger brother.

K-Reg would have been a 'D' model. Much less refined than the 'E' models.
I would guess it was probably half knackered.

The E models are quite smooth and steady up to 6k RPM, but at 7K RPM, all hell breaks loose, all the way up to the redline.

I googled what a DNA50 is - No, i have never had one. In fact, I have not ridden a 50 of any description since 1980!!!, I guess that makes me an old fart.
I think if i rode a 'blade or a gixxer i would probably soil my rompers anyway, so the ZZR suits me just fine. There is no way i am going to check if it still does 150+mph - I was cacking meself at 130 TBH. (on a private road, obviously).

Dont worry about it, no offence taken.
As you quite rightly stated - 'different strokes for different folks'.

and what do you mean, a bit drunk? You need to man-up and get totally slaughtered!!!
Its what Friday nights were invented for, right?

With the availabilty of decent second hand stocks declining (blame the Rumainians and Chech's) and the resulting steady increase in prices, I'd make her good and hang on for a little while. Just like Triumphs, the ZZR is starting to appreciate in value.
Basically, becuase its been talked down so much there are still plenty of good ones around umolested by the day-glo warriors.
Make no mistake, these are fast, and I, too came from an RRX 'blade. Not as grunty and easy to ride I admit, but once they start to howl, you are travelling very quickly!
Fit 'blade, CBR6 calipers, an easy mod for more reliable brakes. Fit the shock from a ZX6, needs the bottom eye grinding back a bit and fit GOOD tyres, not cheopo last forever touring stuff and you will have a very respectable performer.
Mine is 400 miles off 50000, still quiet, still smooth, due to go back to the IOM again this year.
Comfortable with very good wind and weather protection, whats not to like?
And, BTW, dont make me laugh, a Bandit is a wet fart in the wind compared to one of these things.

I'd probably buy it for around £800 if it was up at that price, but you'll possibly fetch more later in the year.

As far as bandit/zzr goes, I got smashed silly by MrJoolz 1995? N reg when I was on Petes 04 Bandit Sad

Thanks for the response guys! Very Happy

Seems to be a price of around £600-900.

Somebody offered me a grand for it straight up, but I refused. Purely based on the fact I cannot have my hands sat still I NEED a project and this is it. Gonna go get her sorted soon once I've got a bit of spare money about. Razz

Going to restrict it too unfortunately. Bloody stupid law tbh but I'd rather not lose my licence.

Cheers.
