Hi all! I've just bought some brand spanking new leathers, and I'm a but unsure how I'm supposed to clean them!? Obviously I will get hit and sweaty certainly during summer rides, so how do you stop your leathers turning into a stinky sweaty dirty mess? Also should I get a treatment spray or wax or something to make them stay supple and not get cracked or faded etc?

Thanks all!

Slightly damp cloth to remove dead bugs or mucky splashes.
You can get various things to put on as a preservative but once a year or so should be enough.
They shouldn't get that smelly inside if you hang them up to air rather than packing away.

To a point they will smell a bit and that's just what happens.
You can get them dry cleaned or try rubbing the inside with a damp slightly soapy cloth, febreeze will reduce or hide any smell if you must.

You don't. You wear them till they:

a. Fall apart

or

b. Get cut off you in A&E

then you get some new ones.

Unless you just want to mince about in them every sunny Sunday afternoon during the summer, in which case give these guys a call:

Don't wear them?

In all honesty, looking after them by cleaning them (damp cloth and water) after every ride to wipe the flies off, bit of anti-bacterial spray inside (foot/shoe deodorant would work well) and hang them up to airdry (on the washing line, or inside) so you don't put them away when they're still damp with sweat.

Even in winter they can get sweaty so in summer they definitely will.

Once or twice a year, or more often depending how much you wear them, a bit of leather conditioning cream will keep them supple and stop them cracking.

Genius adverts Laughing

Seriously though some smell more manly then others naturally. For those that have exceptional manly aromas, a bit of antibacterial spray and a good airing for the insides should help significantly Mr. Green

Can also get antibac talc which may help also.

I wear an undersuit which is alot easier to clean than the leathers.

On the outside i just use a damp cloth to get the bugs off. I also have some nikwax leather spray stuff somewhere that i'll use at some point. Its supposed to keep the leather supple or something.

I mainly wear textiles on the road tho, they just go in the wash with some nikwax every 6 months or so.

I use the Mustang textile cleaner when I can be bothered to clean them. Last time was probably about 8 months ago, I really should give them another going over.

naa, I am actually pretty poor at the moment (self employed in the bike industry sucks, i'm just a spoilt bastard for gear.

I review kit for a living so when I get bored I switch to a new set. That said I still have a few suits in 1 and 2 piece that I keep going back to over others, Held Titan in 1 piece for a start and at the moment my Alpinestars GP Pro for my 2 piece.

Just wipe the dead shit off them and they are fine. Had my Dainese 2 peice for a year and half now and all I've ever done is wipe the dead off them. They still look immaculate.
