Bought a 1975 Honda in the US which I'd like to bring back with me to the UK.

Its got papers and a bill of sale.

I was wondering whether or not I'd have to get historical dating from one of the dating services in the UK (i.e. VJMC) to get the 1975 registration in the UK (which I do want).

Or whether or not the the title and bill of sale would be enough?

Also the bike is completely original but I wanted to give it an all black non-original paint job as well as put cafe bars on it that and I was thinking about a different exhaust system.

I'm concerned how this may or may not affect my registering the bike in the UK, so may want to keep it original until I bring it over to the UK.

Any insight would be appreciated.

pay import tax and VAT I should think.

Hi Vincent, yes thats standard and you pay it on importing the bike.

officialy dating if you require an age-related plate.

Are you sure I would require a dating service? The title (American V5) would not suffice?

The Honda Owners Club should be able to help with dating it. They have a chap who specialises in that stuff.

Try www.hoc.org.uk and ask the question on the forum.

The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club are authorised to issue age related certificates. They require photographs of the bike from both sides and either photographs or rubbings of both engine and frame numbers. The cost of the dating certificate is £35 to non members.

I know the procedure for registering bikes normally but not whether or not I can get a reg for that year so 1975.

I would have thought the title would have been sufficient to date the bike?

Usual import and customs documents
MOT and then DVLA

I left the clubman on the Q plate I was issued because they are kind of funky, although I have ben toying with age related registration.

Thank you for the insight! Historical dating it is then.

Would I get a 1975 age related plate going via this route?

You should do, although it will almost certainly be an early 1975 registration. Ie, 1975 is either N or P reg depending on whether it was registered pre or post 1st August. But it will be assumed to be early registered and get an N reg (as you can't put a plate onto a vehicle that is newer than the vehicle).

All the best

Yes. Off the top of my head, I think that's an "N" or "P" registration, which was the year before I started riding bikes on UK roads - officialy.

You must be fond of the bike as I'm sure it would be cheaper to buy one here.

It's not one of those, (IMO anyway), horrible brown 500 twins is it? Or one of the first CX500's, (too early I would have thought).

500-4? (very collectable at the moment) ?

It is the beautiful brown one! They have been going for ridiculous prices in the UK recently more expensive than the 500/4s.

Bewildering.
