PostPosted: 08:33 - 22 Apr 2012    Post subject: Sweeping Generalisation About A North-South Divide.... Reply with quote

The other week, during the 'heatwave' I was riding around Oxfordshire early in the week, then up in the Manchester area in the latter part of the week. (Apologies for excessive use of the word week)

I noticed that down south, that all (yes all) the other riders I saw were wearing protective gear from top to toe of seemingly reasonable quality, even in the sweltering 20+ degrees of our summer!

However, ooop north, of the seven or ten riders I saw, everyone of them was wearing t-shirts, jeans (may have been of the kevlar type?) no gloves - but they were wearing lids! phew...

Is this a clear sign that northerns are hard as nails and have rash resistant skin, and that southerners are soft as shite....Or does it imply that northern monkey's can't afford decent clothes and that southerners are rolling in cash? (although I did see a guy in a floral print shirt riding a 1098 Corse in Manchester, but he could have nicked it?)

Being originally from the North of England, but now living in the South I feel that if I were to ride without safety kit I may get lynched, and if I ride to the north and am seen to be wearing any sort of safety kit I may be kicked!

Just an observation....

The south is all the gear no idea. A bike is a fashion statement for the shandy drinkers. Wanting to be one of the boys.

Northen big balls ride bikes because they like them and sod everyone else.

I always find it amusing that somewhere 5 hours south of me is "up north" to so many.

It is probably down to the fact that the proper southern shandys are used to warm weather and dont mind sweating like a paedophile in toys r us in their saggy power ranger outfits, while the northern southern shandys are worried that they will miss the summer.

I worked in Plymouth for a year and a half, and the difference in climate was remarkable. Whilst I was wondering about in a polo shirt with a fleece jacket open, the locals were zipping up their winter woolies and tying poncey knots in their scarves.

Off to get my kilt on to catch a haggis for my tea....

Oxfordshire (ie The South)= All the gear no idea

Manchester (Not really the north though is is???) = not a lot of protcection!

Newcastle (ie The North) = We ride naked!!

Somewhat too much of a sweeping statement! I wear full gear almost always (odd occassionif nipping for petrol I wont bother with the trousers) and I am in the most northern English city!

Got feck all to do with hjobs, wages, class or anything like that - most folks in the north would prefer beer to a set of power ranger leathers! Wink

What is worrying is that you think summer is in April.

The inability to afford gloves and a jacket is not the same as bravery.

If the truth must be known, us Southerners have been artificially elevating the price of protective gear in the North for years; it's a convenient way of weeding out the inferior specimens, so our Morlock implementation campaign can go ahead without a hitch.

Northerners are poofs in reality, lilldic and myself were out on our Dukes in the snow, for a pleasurable ride, and unlike the Northern poofs who wont ride in the snow, or the ones who will in epic amounts off massive warm textiles, I was doing it in a race suit....Personally I think the more hardcore riders are down south Wink

When I moved to the 'pool, I learned northerners all huddle around the heaters and hide when it rains. Thats why they are so obsessed with sunbeds-otherwise their skin would be translucent.

Northern Monkey`s can only say "Ugggg!" so when they go to a shop to buy protective gear the monkey behind the counter cant understand what the monkey doing the buying is asking for!
That`s why Northern Monkey`s dont wear protective gear.

Also they are all pussies with hang-ups about their manhood, so feel the need to try to prove how hard they are Laughing by not wearing protective gear.

Just you Northern Monkey`s remember : The Devil`s a Cockney and his brother lives in Glasgow Thumbs Up

Leaning towards it being skint, but I've seen a fair few blokes commuting around London in suits on scooters.

All the guys at Squires are always in full gear. Sometimes I go out in jeans and a jacket, which is stupid.
