I got my bike last week and it came SORN from the dealer and I was told I would have 7 days to Tax it but I haven't received my Insurance certificate yet although it is insured. I can't tax it online because I don't have the full log book yet. Will it be ok to ride it today?

I've read elsewhere online that you have 14 days but I'm not sure. I phoned the DVLA and you just get passed from machine to machine and never get the option to speak to a human being Neutral

You wont be okay to ride it sorry and its sods law u get pulled and done for something even though your trying to be legit.

What I've just done is get the insurance to email you the policy docs and print out the single page certificate at a cost of 2p to yourself. Job is a good'un.

Cheers,
Mick

I'm getting it emailed to me now but it's still too late to tax it.

What do you want to hear? It's not got VED on it, so it's not legal to ride it (unless you're taking it to or from an MOT / MSVA test). Do it first thing tomorrow, or live on the edge.

Honestly, this risk aversion from bikers never ceases to amaze me. You'll almost certainly break a bunch of laws every time you go out on it, tax or no tax.

So why did you not get the dealer to tax it.....

SORN ceases once ownership is transfered.

They said they can't tax it as it would add another owner to the log book.

I'll tax it tomorrow. To be honest I actually went about 6 months without tax once by accident as the tax expired but I never got a reminder or anything, I found out when I went to sell it Laughing

I am sorry you can't ride it until you have all the new doc's. If on the other hand you where in the position of having the V5, tax and Insurance. Then taxed it on line. You could ride it from day one. But no V5 I'm sorry no ride. Unless you want to take the risk. But knowing plod, If you tell them your story, they will only think you are some kind of trick dick smart Azz. And book you for not displacing a tax disk. Best wait is my advice.

I have the green slip from the V5 so I'll use that and the insurance cert to get it done at the Post Office. I would have done it ages ago but the insurance company didn't give me the certificate until I asked them!
