Just checking a few things? I'm assuming the airbox is covered to stop crap/water getting to the intake whilst offroading, I have noticed alot of SM's have drilled airboxes to Presumably get more air in for more powahs! I have 2 airbox lids and am getting SM wheels hopefully next week. Is it worth drilling one for SM use? It doesn't need to be specially set up does it?

I've got a new main jet and needle to go in this weekend, following advice from the KTM forum. I tried to fit the Leo Vince a while ago but no amount of heat/plus gas/blunt force would make it move from the head even the tiniest amount. The only reason I thought about doing it was that it is easy to do and the worse thing that could happen is I ruin a cheap spare part. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't dangerously lean.

Do you want a hand to try and get the exhaust studs freed up?

I have an impact driver here if you want to give it a go with that? Not found much it wont shift. May need an adaptor to use it with a socket piece but I'm sure it's doable.

unbolt the flange from the head. I had to do that to get the head off when I did the rings on it for the same reason.

Look at the middle bolt (the inaccessable one), and notice it's a bit mangled, you can get it off pretty easily with a small chisel and tap it around.

Also more on topic I was told drilling a one inch hole in the GPZ airbox made masses of difference by the GPZ forums, known on there as fogs mod and recommended by all. I didn't notice any difference at all.

That's what I tried but couldn't get an access to the middle bolt, I might have to try tapping it round.

It doesn't have studs just springs they come off easy enough but the exhaust seems to be literally welded to the flange on the head which is held on my 3 bolts, 1 of which is behind the frame.

The exhaust goes to part 15 and I can't get to the middle bolt.

The downpipes should be just an interferance fit.Mine were a bit of a tight fit when I took them off recently. But other friends have had problems removing the downpipes and the flange adapters - one person had to hack saw off the downpipes to seperate them as it was cheaper the ruining the head.He then bought some good condition second hand downpipes for £20.

As for the drilled sidepanel,I have seen proper KTM ones made specifically for the SM in the Hard Parts catalogue if that is anything to go for.
