Anybody else heard of this or know much about this bike?

Just found some vids on YouTube. Apparently has 2.5 times the torque of a Ducati 1198 and 125+ HP?

Looks quite interesting. Do electric motors have no need for a transmission then?

Obviously the Ducati would be able to overtake it in this video, it isn't as slow as you would expect from an electric bike. The guy might not be pushing it either.

Most technological advancements are made on racetracks, so I welcome these useless showy 3-lap wonders. Wink

Ballpark, it's claiming about 100kW. From its 12.5kWh battery, that's 7.5 minutes at full chat whine. In practice, the battery is likely to quickly loses peak capacity from all those high draw discharge cycles, and they're essentially limited by the number of batteries that they bring with them on race day - no just sloshing some more fuel in and going back out.

I'd love to try one, but they're really dependent on the availability of a lot of electrons in an easy transferable form.

There's a lot of 'exciting' electric bikes out there, but the reality is there's a lot less difference between them when you look at the basics.

Ignoring the general cycle components, electric bikes need batteries and an electric motor. The same technology is available to everyone that makes it - as both of these items are used widely outside the bike market, the same innovations will trickle down.
As opposed to motorcycle ICEs which use thousands of bespoke components to make the bike 'go'.

So far, as suggested, battery technology is massively limiting - if you want to go any decent distance, you need a lot of batteries, meaning a lot of weight. You also need to either have some spares to swap out, or wait a good amount of time for them to charge.
Fuel cells that let us use a lot more energy-dense fuels I suspect are going to be a long term solution.

It depends on the electric motor. The Morgan electric car thingamy uses one basically to make it more fun.
However, often you can make do without a gearbox because the electric motor provides 'enough' torque across a wide rev range.

Having a really high torque figure at the engine doesn't mean much. Hell, I'm sure a 1199 can probably wheelie at any point in second - having more thrust at the rear wheels than that is also pointless, unless you're pulling a caravan or something with it.

This, pretty much.

Electric motors can be made to produce collossal power outputs, but you need the power source to do it and batteries currently cant provide electricity as conveniently as petrol or diesel provides power for a piston engine.

Actually-could we build a molten salt nuclear reactor into a sidecar?

I'd be considering a gas turbine generator myself!

True, but a molten salt reactor would only need refuelling every ten years!
