Anyway, I want to start learning to drive a car
does this mean I need to apply for a new provisional License its a bit foggy in that area and curious if anyone knew the answer

Just say I'm being a twat if its a no brainer Very Happy

you do need to start the whole car licence from scratch. You don't get any special privelages from a bike licence as far as i'm aware, as riding a bike does not automatically by default make you able to drive a car, you still need to learn to do so.
Also, you do have a pink licence, but it only has a bike on the back of it Thumbs Up

Cheers, thought that might be the case

Going to be fun going through the tests again

Yeah I know dude, 3 mates have had to do it, but if it helps, they all got through it pretty quick, after riding for a year or two.
All you'll really have to do is get used to the car, you already know the roads and how they work and how to use them, so it should be a speedy job. Thumbs Up

Yeah, that's always a plus side to it
Just hopefully it wont be as strict to pass like module 2 is on the bike test
Thankfully they are re-opening the test center near where I live which will make it easier

Well it is virtually JUST mod 2 isn't it really. It probably will be as strict, I know driving standards are shit, but I don't think they let you off a bit more Laughing

Aye it is very very strict these days. Mod 2 is a walk in the park compared to the car test. Having said that;

1) You're accustomed to the rules of the roads, signs, the areas, around the test centre, etc.
2) It is only one test (well 2 if you include the theory).

I've had a car license for 7 years and after 2 weeks of driving a car the novelty worn off. And it's too expensive. And slow. I just f**king hate driving cars now.
I've had a full motorcycle license for 4 months and after 4 months I still just love to ride. And it's a lot cheaper. And fast. I just f**king love riding motorcycles.

Hope I haven't discouraged you Very Happy

Oh, I've never driven a car in my life, and personally, I would never trade my bike in for a car on any level
The only reason(s) for it are:
Its easier to lug my music equipment round - Impossible on a bike lol
Transport more people who are not able to get around/to events (providing I get petrol money for it mind!)
Just in general of getting the license out of the way

I totally agree, bikes are soooo much more fun, fast, cheaper (Insurance, Tax and passing the test all tell me that straight away, let alone petrol)

But more out of career, I have to get it done Sad

Once I pass, Ill have a car sorted, probably use it once a week at the most otherwise It wont be needed Very Happy

Cheers!

Half the learning process is becoming confident on the roads.

Riding a bike for a few years means all you need to do it is actually know how to drive a car.

Which is p!ss.

Your biggest problem while driving will be staying awake.

Look again. You have category A with a <=25kW restriction on it. You won't see "A2" anywhere[1], and should get out of the habit of describing it as that, since your restriction period will overlap with actual A2 category holders next year. Don't give insurers a chance to ream you out, they'll take it.

[1] ...except that when your license upgrades to full A, those utter, utter mongs at the DVLA put 2 years of previous "A2" entitlement on your counterpart, which they will admit is wrong, but have no plans to change. Mad

Doesn't your license card have "B" on it? I was under the impression that passing your bike license gave you a provisional car, in the same way that passing your car gives you a provisional bike?

I did pass my driving test first though.

Your paper counterpart shows your provisional entitlements.

You almost certainly do already have the car provisional entitlement though. Everyone* gets it when they apply for a provisional licence.

I understand completely (I'm in sound/music/noise myself so I feel your pain brother). With that in mind, I'll be sensible now...

The car test IS a lot harder than motorcycle. You have the advantages of test and genuine-road experience, which are both significant. But be aware that driving to pass your test is a ball ache - you could do worse than have a dozen proper lessons AND get insured provisionally on a friend's or family member's car (it'll also help gauge how much being a car driver actually f**king costs these days).

If you're looking for a solid cheap machine to lug your music rig around once you pass, you could also do much worse than a Suzuki Swift or even a Bedford Rascal. Don't laugh, I'm serious.

That type of van costs slightly less than a mortgage to insure, costs slightly less than a 3-piece-suite to fill the tank, and tax is just the usual arm-and-a-leg rate. They're also great fun to drive when it isn't windy, spacious enough for a roller disco in the cabin if it isn't windy (I had 2 disco balls in my Swift), good with petrol if it isn't windy, and generally a low-maintenance funny-looking fun-to-drive work horse so long as you avoid windy areas.

No need to thank me, happy to help Very Happy Thumbs Up
