Was down the garage the other day and a couple of people said you now get a £60 fine and 3 points for a small plate instead of just a £30 fine and no points. Anyone know if it's true because my new number plate will definitely get me done if I'm pulled?

If the law's changed i'm fecked.

https://www.nopenaltypoints.co.uk/number-plate-offences-punishments.html

I wonder how many people turn up for MOTs on 5 year old bikes, with no hint or marks or dirt on their number plates.

Yep, number plates, MOTs and seatbelts in cars all went up to £60 with no points recently.

(That's on a fixed penalty basis, rather than court.)

Didn't know it changed so long ago, when I had a small plate on my SV I knew it was a £30 fine but that was 3 years ago now. Thought it was the same until it was brought up at the garage when I was down there because of my new plate. Laughing

The picture doesn't really show the angle it's at, pretty hard to read once you start walking back from it!

I can believe it. How long have you had that and how many times have you been stopped for it?

I've had several different plates all with various sizes and font over the years, cheesey slogan etc. all mounted in equaly stupid places at jaunty angles on my bikes.

Handed over £120 in 8 years for them, never had any points, just alot of finger wagging and notebook scribbling.

I'd heard it changed to £60 a while ago, so I now sport 8"x6" plates with standard font, and a legit plate postcode on the bottom + BSAU145d, mounted at what i consider to be a borderline angle.

I think it looks better than the 9"x7" standard, especially on the pitbike, but not so small as to be an issue.
I was followed by the fuzz for 500 yrds other day on the ktm.............nothing.

If your worried about hiding for speedcams and bank jobs, just hook it up on a hinge and an RC car servo and control circuit Thumbs Up .
(i made mine when i was at college in '02 it worked a treat for 3 summers Thumbs Up before the water got in Thumbs Down )

£120 isn't that bad in 8 years to me, you can get done much worse for getting caught using a flip up plate! Plus, mines fitted with Velcro so I can just pull it off...for track days of course Shifty

You'd have to hide the servo pretty well, I don't think it would go well if a nosey policeman spotted it.

I'm thinking about a 8"x6" plate, where can you buy them with the legit-looking postcode at the bottom?

Ebay is your best shout, there's loads of people making them to order on there, that's where I got mine and it's good quality with quick delivery too.

That will be the same, £60 no points, it covers virtually all the number plate offences.

You could always try giving the copper an extremely surprised look if it falls off and you get pulled over. If it ever does happen then it's always worth reporting to the police that it's missing, in case someone finds it and decides to use it.
