PostPosted: 22:05 - 22 Apr 2004    Post subject: St George Reply with quote

Being the patriotic bugger that I am I reckon tomorrow should be a public holiday.

I reckon we should be donning the streets with red and white bunting, all dressing up to slay dragons (not the Welsh I mean :-)and (most importantly) drinking ferocious amounts of ale much the same as our Irish friends do on St Paddy's day.

So the question is, what's everyone on here going to be doing for St George's day - or are you lot not really arsed???

We should not be drinking loads, we should be just generally celebrating England.

However I think that the UK is much stronger as a Unit and we should have a Saints day to cover the whole UK instead. Smile

Why?

The Welsh, Scots and Irish don't want a 'UK' so why should we?

perhaps that is my point.

England sucks on its own, but admittedly not as much as Scotland or Wales. The main achievements that have put the UK on the map have been when we have been united.

I agree that we should be proud of our country and region, however you can take it to extermes. Should we be patriotic to our county, or town even? Maybe I should celebrate my street or house?
Or maybe we should work together to tell the europeans to take a running jump! Smile

England does nothing to be proud of any more it is a greedy over rated country who does nothing but take from the people, It is the classic take from the poor and give to the rich. Once this country was something to be proud of now it is just a stinking hell hole which we call society when you have old people scaredto go out or leave their homes. And our police which we pay can not be botherd to do anything about it they are more interested in gathering speeding tickets and checking people have road tax or tv licences. They are wanting poele to be better educated and then making students pay to go to universitiy England sucks.

So should we celebrate only the 'good' things England has done or all the not quite so courageous things England has done. Also when you talk about the actions of England are you including those of the government? I personally don't have anything to celebrate about this government. Sick

Slight generalisation.

I'm Scottish first, but I'll never deny being British. We work well together as a nation and should keep it that way.

Saw a courier on a battered old Bandit with a ridiculously huge St George's cross flag flying from it on a broomhandle flagpole this morning on the way to work, he was pulling a monster wheelie past the bus I was on. That made my morning, had a stupid grin on for ages Very Happy

They should concentrate on primary and secondary school education by the looks of it. It's the government that sucks, not the country.

It's hard to celebrate this day because you'd have the police and council round in 5 seconds flat ready to do you for racism.

Not sure what to do about this. Tend to take the view that we pay people to doss around on the dole, so why not pay students, or we pay for schools so why no university.

Currently I tend to think that there should not be fees, but that living expenses can be paid for through a student loan. I would certainly prefer to pay taxes towards people going to uni rather than pay taxes for people to be subsidised for breeding.

All the best

Keith

I find it amusing how every year people moan about not celebrating St. George's Day and yet every year most of them don't do a thing about it.

I spent today avoiding getting beaten up by angry Welsh people.

I left the rose at home Sad Embarassed I am ashamed of myself for such cowardice.
