I came off, in the pouring rain, on a motorway roundabout, in france, on easter monday. Aside from a small bruise on the tip of my little finger i was not damaged. Nor was the bike really, except for a the gear shift change lever was bent in. I did a make-do repair at the side of the road but its not perfect and i'm scared the rightangle will break off if i push it. There are cheap CD200 levers on ebay but i don't know if it will fit? Also does anyone have experience of fitting these? as i'm basically a novice.

Thanks

Nat

Personally I wouldn,t bother buying another gearlever, just remove the lever by slackening off the clamp and sliding it off the splines.
Then put some heat on it from a blowlamp and hammer away to your hearts content till it looks like the original shape. With some heat on it I would be very surprised if you broke it. Anyway what you got to lose. Good luck

You should be able to straighten the gear lever with a hammer + vice. You probably won't need a blowtorch. Simply take it off the bike & pretend you are a blacksmith. I have had to do this a few times.

The point is these levers are usually good old fashioned steel, especially on older bikes, so they can take a fair bit of bashing. It's only on fancy lightweight ones that you will have problems, especially if they've used aluminium rather than steel. I don't think I've ever seen an aluminium gear lever though, do they exist?

Aluminium brake & clutch levers though - no chance. These always break on me if I start straightening them.
