There's some powdery corroded aluminium oxide on my CB500's fork lowers, where the clear coat has been eaten away. Does anyone have advice about cleaning them up? I dealt with the problem on my trials bike restoration by wet sanding the entire lowers and polishing, lacquering them. Is it possible I can get them looking more tidy without taking them off the bike, also without taking too much of the original lacquer off as they are only corroded in patches. Thanks! Smile

They'll still look crap if you try to do just the iffy patches, they really need sanding all over and repainting/laquering. It can be done with them still in the yokes but it's a lot quicker and easier to take them off plus a lot easier to get a better finish than masking everything off and trying to get all the nooks and crannies while they are on the bike. Silver wheel paint spraycan and lacquer will do a decent job.

To remove the lacquer before you start attacking them with abrasive use paint stripper, works a treat.
