as i said in a previous post i am 17 and planning on taking my CBT soon, i will probably now be getting something like an NSR. I have looked round at insurance quotes and some are up to 3 times what i will pay for the bike, i know they have to insure for third parties and those costs may be high but for me £3000 is just a bit too expensive
I was just wondering how much did you guys pay for insurance and if you know of any cheap companies or any ways to get the cost down?
Any help will be appreciated |

thanks for all the replies people
I have just bough bike trader and plan on getting as many quotes as possible. I live in London which may explain one thing about the cost but in a year am moving to kent to start uni (hope there are some lush roads in canterbury). I will have too many money worries then to get a bike. I need one now to get around and get to my job, (will save a lot of money every week) and will also be a source of enjoyment.
I was thinking of getting a 1999 NSR125RR i have seen one in mint condition. I know it will be lower if i get an older bike but having seen the number of posts saying NSR followed by boom i am worried about getting an older bike.
Thanks for the suggestion Noggin, i will check bike team out. Thanks for the offer Danny, i will certainly consider it if i continue having the luck im currently having
I'm glad i found this forum as knowing very little about bikes i have found it very useful and welcoming! |

yeah the club sounds great
good news, i managed to get a quote for £800 which i think is reasonable considering my age and experience (or lack of).
Just another quick question, as this is the first time i have ever had to get an insurance quote i was wondering what excess is? My quote was £800 and £500 excess, had me very confused |

I pay about £250 TPFT a year on my DNA 125 and im 18 with a years no claims. The excess i think is £100. I get roadside assistance and or take it home if its done for. Used it once. Didn't take long to get me home from lancaster. I also get free legal cover which im taking up after Mr Taxi driver.
Check out Rampdale Insurance Brokers. They specialise in 125cc insurance. Beats claims over £3k for a great service. Ask them anything. After my first year and no claims it reduced about £150 and they offered that without having to ring up. I just renewed and that was done.
The DNA 125 is a high insurance group too. Dunno why but when i got it it was. Don't know about now.

Thats not bad for a 17 year old, but shop round a bit more and you may find you can get it down more with it been an old bike. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

I simply go through the following list and see what comes back, the better ones are normally from those companys that don't give an instant quote, instead they email you back the next day when they have a hunt around for you.

Or just send Danny a pm and see what he can do for you, if he cant beat your lowest quote by more than the £30 he charges he wont charge you. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!
