Picked it up on Saturday. A 1988 Yamaha TDR250. Some say it's the bike that started off supermotos.
This thing is so much much to ride. A completely different world to my old sv650s. You really have to keep it on the boil if you plan on going anywhere fast (in a cloud of smoke and on the back wheels ). There's practically zero power below 7000rpm then the power really kicks in until the 10K redline. Amazing fun and sound.

I love those bikes.

I had one when I was 18 and I have always regretted getting rid of it.

Spooky! I have an SV650S and a TZR250! Love 'em both to bits and love the differences in riding them. Just make sure you haven't got your SV head on when you pull away on the TDR - stalling is not good for street cred!
Have fun - us 2-strokers are a dying breed!

yeah nice one mate for helping keep another great 2 stroke nutter bike on the road. Im quite glad that im out of the bike buying market now ive got ratty KMX200 to sort out, as in the latest MCN bikemart i saw one of my all time dream bikes advertised less than 15miles away. Theres an RD500LC for sale in Worcester area, for around £1800 whic is too much for an 1984 sports bike, but id still have gone and had a look at it otherwise. Ive heard the sound that those 4 expansion chambers make, and the i want one thoughts wont go away! I guess that you'd need a spare £1k or so though to re-build the motor on that bike, which is scary, considering that it might take twice that amount to sort out the chassis to a reasonable condition, to make the most of it!

Fair play, I wish I could afford a 2-stroke toy that I could thrash like anything. I had a go on a RGV250, and the powerband on that thing was amazing, it really shocked me

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure how long i'm going to keep it because I do miss the grunt of the past 4 strokes I've had. No doubt I'll then miss the buzz of a 2 stroke. Rolling Eyes
Anyway, I love the way it handles so whatever I go for next it's going to be a supermoto, just whatever I can afford.

ps. i've been searching through the rd-froums and getting advise from some of the guys there. ta

You gotta keep it mate lets get that over with straight away lol! I do think you want to be finding a bored out and tuned 350YPVS motor to stick in it though, as i want to see the results! around 70bhp in a 126kg bike should be reasonable fun!
