After a little scare with misplacing my keys (found again thank god) i think it'd be wise to get a spare set cut. Does anyone know if i need any bike documentation along with me when i go to the cutters? V5 etc? Thanks.

Nope, had one cut recently. Just take the key in and they'll make a copy there and then.

Nope, nothing required for keys.

If it's a transponder key, you may need some more information and will be more hassle.

Note that not all lock smiths have all keys suitable for bikes. Even some specific automotive ones don't - I had to order a blank from ebay for my zx9. However, once you've got the blank, any key cutting place should be able to do it.

I can't see it being a problem. Timpsons managed to cut me working keys from the snapped remains of an old one. Thumbs Up

You clamp the 'all' remains in the copy machine and cut the blank to the profile.

May need a tweak with a file for perfection but worn key worn lock so should work.

Make mental note to beware the power of a Ham Fist in future.

Make a note of the code on your key/ignition as well for future reference that way encase you do lose it then it might be cheaper to get a new key. Priced one up for my bike if I had lost the key and it worked out between £50 and £60.

With a new lock set costing £45 you can see the wisest idea especially if its not a transponder key you can get them cut from as little as £4; may be worth getting an extra cut and putting it up safe in you house.

Gaffa tape the spare to the inside jaw of your arse then you won't forget where you left it.

Thumbs Up

I ordered a blank, got local locksmiths to cut it and then encoded in to the immobiliser myself.

I only got 1 key with my bike, and if I lost it, the bill would be about £1k for all the new electrickery resulting from being locked out by the immobiliser. Shocked

If you have a bike with H.I.S.S, make sure you have a spare!
