Following on from TPO Versus TPFT,

What locks and other security features should i get, IE brands that are proven (like an Oxford Screamer?) and what heavy duty, impossible to cut, godzilla proof chain? Razz

almax series 3 chain and squire ss65cs padlock. Thumbs Up

Oxford are most definately not a proven brand when it comes to security.

xena disc lock are pretty good, disc lock and alarm. I'd avoid Oxford, as said it's products are dire, just youtube video's and you will see people breaking oxford locks in seconds.

To me it depends where im parking. If im parked on the road in the most crime ridden part of the county like i usually am i will put the disk lock on. If its just in my garage i usually cant be arsed so wont bother. Same goes for when i usually park in a area where there are loads of people when im at cadets.

Like mike told me when i asked this question. Its all about appearances. If the bike looks hard to steal then nobody will pinch it. Some idiot chav isnt going to know the difference between a £200 almax chain and a cheap £10 one from wilko (which i have).

Back to tpo for me again ... 50 quid, the bikes worth a lot to me, but the 1200 quid payout on theft won't get me my bike back.

I have the best security, and after gaining 2 years NBC, I object to bein asked for double the amount year on year as a reward.

Get a Cyclone 2 Alarm and fit it to your bike. You'll hear that from inside your house. You will not hear a Xena Disc Alarm. Xena Disc Locks are good to stop the bike being rolled off, and to get it off they'd have to give it a sharp, hard tap... or more, which will set off your alarm!

Cyclone alarms are great for the price. Piece of mind.

Indeed, but whereas your cheap £10 wilkos own will be easily defeated by some croppers or a sledgehammer, my £200 almax won't. My bike is worth a couple of grand, why would I entrust it's security to anything but the best I can afford?

Secure your imaginary bike with rope woven from unicorn hair.

FFS, just buy a bloody bike already. I'm coming over all Teflon!

I left a Hein Gericke outlet recently with the impression that Oxford gear was pretty decent. Rolling Eyes
