re-painting cover

Washed the bike yesterday and realised that the degreaser I bought is much better at stripping paint than chain grease ><

Apparently the alternator cover was repainted by the previous owner. He did a damn good job! Only saw it when the paint started coming off...

The question now is, if I take the cover off to repaint what sort of gasket should I use to refit? Just any old corn flakes box will do ?

I think I ll go for satin black heat resistant paint (matches engine colour) or does anyone have any info on powder coating in W. Midlands?

Cornflake box might do, but if it were me I'd buy a new gasket. Best to do a quick google for powder coaters, I looked a while back but there was a minimum amount (£50 worth springs to mind?).

You could go all out and simply mask the surrounding parts and blast it on the bike.

If I was going to go as far as remove a cover to paint it then I would go the next 1-1/2 inch and buy the gasket from the dealer.

And hope you are rubbing down, priming and have matched the colour?

Then using a clear lacquer.

That gasket on the S4 is reusable as long as you are careful taking the cover off.
