Anyone else find they just dont fit?!

Or have I just got significantly bad cankles and no ones told me..?

The soul of my first pair of boots finally fell off the other day, so I presumed it must be time to get some new ones.

Dad's bought me a few second hand ones off ebay, but all have the same problem of just being too small. The sizing is all over the place (I'm generally a size 5 in most shoes, but one pair that were meant to be UK 6.5 only just fit length ways).
And the ankle space is only just enough to fit my wrist in never mind my foot.
And lets not even start on the width manufacturers think ladies calfs are. You are not giving me enough velcro!!

Surely I can't be the only one with this issue..
Or maybe I've just been unlucky with the boots that have turned up off the interweb lol.

Can anyone recommend any boots that fit people not shaped like a stick man?

Taaa! Carol x

hiya Smile and no you aren't the only one.

I think i have elephnat calves by the look and feel of some of those boots I have tried on, but it goes the same for all the ladies biking stuff
I have/had the same problem, ended up buying some BLytz boots, being my first apir wasnt going to go nuts on the most expensive..

they are lovely and comfy, paddock style boots, but they are lace up and velcro fastening, not totally waterproof thats for sure Thumbs Down

Best thing is, they are 2 sizes smaller than my regular boot size, thats the only thing I have bought for myself in biking gear thats actually smaller...

If ye havent got a complex before you take up biking ye soon will have !!!!!! Shocked Crying or Very sad

Good lukc in your searching and if ye find anything good let me know lol Thumbs Up

Nope, I found it really hard to get a pair of boots that fitted properly! I eventually ended up with some Alpinestars SMX ones that are fully adjustable round the ankles. Expensive but amazingly comfortable and I can use them with my full leathers tucked inside or my jeans over the top. Best advice is to go to a bike shop and ignore the specific ladies boots (they seem to be aimed more at riding pillion) and just try on whatever fits.

RIDE did a bit about womens bike gear this month, its pretty helpful and highlights the fact that there just isnt very much that is specifically for the ladies. Its getting better though!

Phew! Thanks for youre feedback here, I'm starting to feel less like a mutant lol.

I now sincerely want to know who/what manufacturers model their designs on, and the thinking behind them!

Totally agree on the principal that many girls who have bikes don't want swirly bits and flowery patterns all over their gear, and why do they only come in black/white/pink & blue pastel shades?! Oh I think I saw some lame muted shades of dull last time I was at J&S actually.
But first make them fit before sticking patterns on!!

Oh another note, 4 years of riding and I'm still yet to find any bike trousers that I approve of. Have tried on sososo many different makes/sizes/gender/styles of them, but alas no luck. Closest I came was when I stole an ex-boyfriend's jeans to test, but the same size in the shops didnt fit at all, so I think he must have stretched them a bit over time.
I knoooow. I could have some altered. But each year I have some ambition of weightloss so don't make the commitment.
Personally think I should start my own line of bike gear!! Atleast it'd fit me! ;P

Will check out RIDE though! Thanks for the heads up there! Dad has a subscription so it'll be in the downstairs toilet library somewhere...

I bought my leathers in a shop called GirlsBike2, they have a website you can check out. I have long legs and a fat arse so couldn't find leathers that fitted properly in my local bike shops, first set I tried on in GB2 fitted like a glove. I ended up with an Alpinestars one-piece with £200 knocked off the price as it was an end of range one (and the last in stock). They were very helpful and I think they appreciated my doing The Worm across the changing room floor squeezing into the one-piece!

Worth a look-at anyway, I found mens trews to be either way too loose around the waist or too tight on the hips. Mens boots and gloves were a pefect fit though.

And I f@&!ing hate pink on my bike or my gear!

Boots for me is also an issue.

At the moment I wear some Spada touring boots which, whilst comfortable still require me to wear about 3 pairs of socks. Not great in the summer!

I too suffer from chunky calf syndrome and would love to know of brands/models which are designed to accomodate a chunkier leg. It gets so disheartening! They're either too big on the foot or they're just too skinny on the leg itself. I have ankle boots too but that of course isn't great all the time.

Urgh! Cupcake for the girly boots brigade!

On a more positive note, if anyone like me, wears a slightly bigger size, I've had luck with JTS doing women's jackets and like, not to mention does a variety such as waist length and longline jackets.

Had the same problem trying to find a set of boots to fit the wife, went through loads of different types of boots with fitting problems. As has been said, mainly around the calf's. Finally sorted it though.

Brought a set of Sidi boots and then had a local bike leathers mender/maker remove the zip from one side of the boot and sew in a triangular panel and then refit the zip to it. Perfect fit at last Very Happy

I've never had any problem getting boots to fit. Had two pairs of Alpinestars (not female-specific, just boots in my size) and now a pair of Daytonas and they're all fine. All had plenty of adjustment in them.

This is what I had done except just in a normal cobblers shop. I think the end cost was about £15 - not bad for having waterproof, fitting boots at long last.

I have short (size 4) broad feet and I got a pair of the Probiker boots from Get Geared and even in a size bigger, they really pinch across my toes after wearing them for a while. I got some Alpinestars SMX from Ebay and they are loads better - not too tight across my feet and adjustable round my ankles and legs.
Boot problem solved...now trousers...that's a real problem finding ones that fit properly everywhere.

Is it possible to see a picture of what you had done? I'm not sure if I'm visualising it right xD

Some of us have been riding much much much longer than that...though, like has been said...things are improving...just slowly. Neutral

i've had the same calf issues with boots. I do think manufacturers think women are only on bikes as a decorative feature on the back Rolling Eyes

When i first got riding i had wet feet for bloody ages and often resorted to the dispatcher-chic thing of carrier bags on over your socks. Ditto gloves (marigolds underneath). There seems to be room for 'artistic licence' when calling things 'waterproof'.

My current boots are Gerickes. Not particularly expensive but still properly waterproof after a good few years use and the entire calf has velcro instead of zips so there's plenty of room for adjustment. I'd definitely get another pair. I tend to just wear caterpiller workboots in the summer unless it's lashing it down.

My winter-leather is a bog standard black leather i've had for yonks and my summer one is an old TT that is as waterproof as a fag paper but i love it too much to part with it Rolling Eyes

I got excellent leathers from Gerickes too. . . . .after trying on what i am pretty sure is every pair of leathers in creation Laughing Loads of soft fitting stuff round the waist so they fit properly standing and riding and don't do the fit-at-the-hips-but-gaping-at-the-waist thing. Had a couple of minor spills in them and they seem well made enough not to fall apart when tested. The padding is in the right place for girlie hip-bones too. They're waterproof for as long as can reasonably be expected for leathers so i invested in some waterproofs for over the top cos i like long rides and am too much of a wuss to be cold and wet for hours on end without moaning about it Mr. Green

I think my Hein Gericke boots are womens. They are very comfortable and fit my size 7's well. Every other pair of bike boots I've owned have been mens. I tried on a pair of gortex ladies Oxtar boots. I could get them on but would never have been able to walk or ride in them for long, way too narrow.
I suppose when looking for boots I don't look at male/female, just the size and if I can live with them or not Smile
