My current laptop is starting to fall apart, the battery doesn't last more than 20 minutes, the DVD drive is dead and the hard drive is starting to fail.

So,

Must be under £400 (cheaper the better, I seem to have loads of things I need to buy at the minute!)

I only really use it for browsing, typing things up and things like that, but even then I feel my current spec (1.6ghz, 2G Ram) is pretty slow and I regularly have to "task manager>end process tree) when it all gets a bit too much.

I'd like windows 7, got vista at the minute (or is there something else on the way that is worth waiting for?)

Not too worried about HD size, current one is 80GB and it's not full. I have a spare "porn drive" with all my music and filth on it.

Had a look on ebuyer, tesco direct, pcworld and a few others but to be honest I am not too sure what I'm looking at!

Appreciate any help! Thumbs Up

I just bought this on Monday for my mum's birthday.

Absolutely cracking laptop and a very nice spec to match. I looked around at many laptops with the same budget and this was one of the better spec one's for the price.

£400 will buy you a laptop with Windows 7. You're entering Core i3 pricing. You can expect a 15.6" screen, 4GB of RAM, and a dual core i3 chip.

Any should be much of a muchness at this money.

Check if any sellers/retailers are offering 3yr warranty as Argos did this a while back.
