clutch problems

I went to change my cable today because had wrong one bodged to bike .put new cable on and can't seem to get right when you pull clutch in put in gear goes in ok let clutch out pulls forward fine but when you go to take out of gear won't select gears very well unless rev bike a bit .any tips have not tryied to take for ride with new cable .

Is it correctly routed for a start? does turning the bars change anything, i.e. does the cable go silly tight one way or another?
Is it correctly adjusted?
If all that's done...
Is the chain correctly adjusted and lubricated? Might sound strange but it does significantly improve gear changes, or in my experience since its been pointed out to me as soon as my gear changes go clunky the chain generally needs some lube and/or adjustment.

Nope dont go silly tight Ect chain was fine with old cable too dark to check .but do you think it would help if I took it for ride maybe oil not geting to round bits LOL

When was it last used? Might well just be a bit stiff. Give it a good ride, not a jolly to the shops and back.
A good blast, get the oil all hot and get the engine in full swing. Perhaps 20-30 miles or something like that.
Might loosen it up,

Ile adjust it to correct free play and try ride hasn't bin out for bit just thought ide replace cable with new correct one
