Hi Guys,

Went to see a bike yesterday, 1992 XJ 600, 28,000 miles, bike looks really nice, went round the block and seemed all good, all new parts on it, I thought it was just someone's project to make it nice again.

hew was throwing in all his old gear too, all for £800, so I gave him 10% and went away to get the money.

Now I've done a HPI check on it and it was recorded as cat C in 2001.

Really unsure what to do now, ive seen some people have said in other posts if its expensive then dont bother as the resale value will be crap, or if its cheap, take it and run it into the ground.

Stupid I know I didn't ask if it had been written off, shall I just walk away, try and get my deposit back, or go for it? Will the insurance be higher on a cat C?

No.

If you like and bike fixed to a good standard then no issues. Only affect is resale value. So you need to decide if you have a good deal and also realise you can't sell it on for very much either.

Bit naughty of seller not to tell you about Cat-C but then probably working on the principle if you don't ask he doesn't have to say (so maybe priced bike higher?).

well i figure 800 is pretty cheap and i plan to run it into the ground anyway, so probs a good deal really.

And yeah I didn't ask so he didn't say fair enough I guess.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest at that price. Heck, I wouldn't even have checked. If it's a good bike, bag it.
