Coming home tonight noticed that up until about 45mph there's a strange clacking noise coming from underneath my R1, sometimes it makes a clunk through the pegs, sometimes not.

With the help of a mate I gave both wheels a good tug at 12 & 6, 3 & 9 to see if I could feel a knock in the bearings but couldn't.

Could it be the sprocket carrier bearing? The bike doesn't lurch around or anything, it happens in every gear and it only happens when I'm on throttle, even a little bit, and goes away when I completely shut it off.

Very good chance. How is the chain, any tight spots?

What the green one said.

My zxr had the same thing, needed a new chain anyways.

Fitted, problem solved.
