I have seen a 98 zx6r but fairings and clutch cover from what i can see are tatty as hell, but mechanically it is sound.

So to fix / paint the fairings etc. will that be expensive or do i just holdout for a better nic one?

There's always a set of chinese fairings. I haven't used them mysef but others have on here and I don't remember there being too much negativity about them.

Chinky chonk fairings from some people are ok, my ones turned out spiffingly.

I'd take a whack at it, painting fairings takes time. If you can deal with that then you can do yourself nice and easy.
