Me and my mates are interested in getting some dirt bikes to have a laugh and do some off roading. Having no idea where to start I was looking for some advice such as-
where can you do it?
presumably you cant just go to an empty forest and start messing about?

we don't want to take it up seriously or anything just have a laugh but we do want it to be all legal so I just wanted to know where you can go etc..

Thanks in advance

I'm looking for the same thing really. Not wanting to compete, or ride with hundreds, just one or two.

I'm still looking for a track to practise on. But I have to admit, I have in the past gone up to a massive forest in the cotswolds (Near to Cheltenham) owned by a logging company and teared about for an hour or so.

Where abouts do you live and what do you ride? You'll want something with quite a quiet muffler if your planning on going bandit.

[I'd like to point out, that I'm NOT encouraging anyone to ride without permission. It'd a pretty stupid thing to do, even if you have got a surge for some off-roading]

You may also find it helpful to look at this:

Cheers!

You can pick up an decent-ish crosser for under a grand. Depending on what you want really. Think about your height and size aswell.

As for places to ride, If you buy some motocross magazines they have a section of tracks and places where you can ride. If there is no where local, ask a farmer If you can ride on his set aside (unused field). If that fails just find somewhere suitable like a common.

Very fun off roading is, living on a farm for a while I had places to tear around on.

Its not too expensive to get into, if your lucky. My CRM 250 cost me 450 quid, the insurance was 219 TPFT at 19, and it passed the MOT firs time so no big probs there.

Finding somewhere to ride. Thats more fun. Depending where you live in the country there may be very few green lanes. Around here there seem to be about 10 miles of green lanes in a 50 mile radius, which is a Bad Thing.

Slight problem here being that to claim the EU money for the set aside then the land must not have the surface disturbed.

All the best

Not a problem for you, just that the farmer probably will not want to risk his large subsidy cheque just so that you can play.

All the best

I'm not looking to race or anything.. there are some great forests near me where I go running and on a mountain bike and it just occurred to me it would be great to go tearing around on a cheap bike for a laugh.
This is what I wanted to do rather than racing round a track.
Just wanted to know what you can and can't do really- was just a passing thought.

Not being funny or anything, but get yourself a Crunchbox 90. Superb little bikes off road, will run on forever. We put mine into a dyke, pulled it out, kicked it. Popopop and away we went. They jump quite well too Twisted Evil . Best bit you can pick them up for about £20. When your comfortable with the Crunchbox, move onto a MX bike like a KX125.

What does that bike look like and any websites for info? I know nothing about it but it sounds like the kind of thing i'd like. A cheap bike that goes on forever to throw about and mess about on every now and then!
Couldn't find anything on google.
