Just wondering what it was? It looks like this: DAT01234567

Is it just a serial number or a security feature?

It's a datatag code - you may aso find the numbers on various fairing panels, out of sight.

The bike has been 'datatagged'.

If you call them up, they'll be able to issue you a certificate etc to get it all in your name.

Ah right, nice one. I only just noticed it when fiddling with my indicator bulbs.

Mine has it... everywhere.

Mirrors, fairings, clocks, and pretty much everywhere you can see.

Yes at a cost, can't remember how much it was but it was more than I was willing to entertain paying....

Get the certificate for it, then make sure you tell your insurance company when you renew, they should knock some money off!

Found this thread really helpful as ive got these codes on my new ZR7-S.
So called them myself, its a £15.50 charge to get the details changed into your name.

They send you out some paperwork, you need your VIN number, Enging number, Registration number and card details or a cheque for the admin fee.

If it's the only code found on the bike I wouldn't be calling it in because it MIGHT be identifying a stolen part. Lots of bikes get nicked and sold for spares. Could be slightly embarrassing if the previous owner bought a replacement off ebay etc.

It's ok to call them, identify the DAT tag to them, and the registration, and they'll tell you if it's a match. If it isn't a match,(happened to me before) they'll say you cannot have it transferred as it doesn't match the bike, and the guy before you probably replaced that part.

Once paid, should take a couple months to receive the paper work.
Expect the wait.
