 |
|
Hi everyone,
I've recently passed my CBT and have been looking around for a good 125 to give me enough time to get some practice in before taking my Mod 1 and Mod 2 before the new year.
Unfortunately I don't have too much money to spend so I've been trying to find a bike within the 500-700 range.
I'm down in Cornwall and there is a Yamaha SR125 that is local to me going for £600 at the moment. Because I'm new to all this i'm not sure how important milage is on a 125.
It's done 23,000 miles and has recently passed an MOT with no advisories.
My main question is how many miles would you expect the bike to do without needing to become a major project and is £600 an okay price for pay for the SR125 having done 23,000 miles.
If anyone help i'd greatly appreciate it, I don't want to end up making a big mistake
Thanks everyone
Edit: Forgot to mention that it's a 2000 model if it helps at all. |

Christ, I'm having serious deja vu here. I pick up my SR from Cornwall not two months ago!
From what you've shared I would snap that up in an instant. Mine was a 2001 reg, had done 15,500 miles and was £970, no problems bar a new battery. If I were you I'd go view it, just check it over and make sure it runs smoothly, but considering its age and low mileage that sounds like a bargain.
I bought mine for the exact same purpose, and so far it's doing a great job; reliable workhorse that looks pretty classy for a 125 too. One downside is the power; it's absolutely gutless. Don't expect anything above 60mph on it, and be prepared for a hard lesson in gears when you come to any sort of hill.
Take a look at it, definitely get a test ride, but other than that go for it! ____________________ Yamaha SR125; Yamaha XJR 400; Suzuki GS500E |

Thanks very much for the advice guys, I just rang up the owner and it sounds like he's just sold it in the past hour or two. Somebody came to view it and bought it off him there and then
Looks like i'll be on the hunt again! At least i've learnt that you have to be really quick with these things
Thanks again for the specific information on the sr125 Von Blacke and CB77, strange about the Deja Vu! |

Eh, saves me saying it.
At that price range, at this time of year, you don't have time to ask and wait for an answer. Keep cash to hand, be the first to respond, and definitely the first to get in there. Any seller with the wit he was born is going to sell to the first person to put cash in his hand.
If that's your budget, you're going to have to be both patient and fast, everybody else is chasing the same bikes. Best of luck. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Sorry to hear about the SR. See if you can find a nice Honda CG in the area! They're brilliant little bikes. ____________________ CBT Passed - 22 / 10 / 11 >> Theory Passed - 16 / 02 / 2012 >> Mod 1 Passed - 07 / 03 / 2012 >> Mod 2 Passed - 18 / 05 / 2012. |

had one as my first bike not too long ago, felt like i was riding a trike!
Quite a low bike, comfy but low. Cornering wasn't fun either as it felt a lot harder to get round corners than the EN125 i have now !
Went for a long ride to blow the cobwebs out of it, fuel was economical, but as Taixifanth said the downside is power...it was lucky to do over 50 and when it did it only lasted for a matter of seconds lol !
Think I did get 60 out of it once but I think the speedo was taking the piss tbh |
