hi my sons s8 50 08 reg started blowing fuses , everything on the bike worked apart from the headlights (full beam) i started removing parts til the fuses stopped blowing and it turned out to be the cdi , now my problem is that i cant source the exact same part , every place ive went have offered me a six pin cdi like mine but mine has a wire coming from it but theirs doesnt and they dont know what the wire is for , its got to be there for something . if anyone has any ideas what it does or where i could source this part id be greatful , i cant even get a picture of the same one online . thanks.

I think and I say think because im not 100% but I think the black wire is an earth that runs to the frame or battery give the other ones a try if they dont work return them, in the past iv had fuses blowing from having water in the cables,

hope this helps

thanks for the reply mate , when i removed the cdi it had a crack the full length of it and the bike stopped blowing fuses when it was unplugged , i couldnt see the crack because it had a rubber sleeve/hanger over it ... i think ill try a different one to see if it works , i thought it might be a ground wire but it goes back into the loom and its well taped up so i couldnt trace it ... ill update if i find out what it is ...

Hi mate,

if you have a multi meter you will be able to check if its a earth wire, also this site sells many parts for scooters and might sell your cdi :

hello , well it turns out i was mis-informed and that the part i was looking for wasnt a cdi , it looked like it but it wasnt ... it is infact a headlight controller relay and is £60 from kymco direct ...it does help when you look for the right thing lol ..
