New thread!

Spies was fastest in a damp FP1 followed by Hayden and Rossi.

Predictions?

No predictions from me. With what I've read Spies has went to a setup that he wanted to run on the 800, but it wouldn't work, they've dialled in a similar setting and it's worked.

Bens main issue was he had a very different setup to the other Yamahas and it was causing really bad chatter. It looks like they've fixed it so thats good, nice to see him back up there.

Cal, he's actually making it look easy now, just like he's a regular front runner, it's quite exceptional actually. It's wicked to see.

Nicky/Vale - On Vales last lap of FP2 he was 0.45 down and lost half a second in the last quarter, so i'd say there is more to come, obviously it's no race winner, but fighting for top 5 I think is potentially possible, even in the dry. They also have new parts to test Monday, so light is coming.

Redding topped FP2 in Moto2 as well, he's certainly upped his game this year, if he can keep it up for race distance I reckon he'll do well!

I don't think all this hype about Rossi on his own Yamaha next year will happen tbh. I do however hope that he possibly has a break through with the new bits and starts getting a few points in the garage Smile

It really is nice to see Cal front running and if Ben has sorted his issues out then the race on sunday will be something of a bit more interest i think Smile

Already been gone through dude, Rossi can't get one becaust Dorna have limited leasing to 4 bikes.
Factory have 2, as do Tech 3, and with a factory ride practically out of the question, it only leaves tech 3. Poncheral has said it would be a dream to have Rossi but with Bradley Smith guaranteed a ride (a stupid deal made far too early IMO) it'd require a shit lot of money and sorting, and it'd be a factory backed bike, funded a lot by Vale. Was in MCN last week.

As for this weekened, Vale and Nicky seem to be relatively on the pace, compared to the monstrosity at Jerez.
Rossi has said he feels much better at corner entry and braking for once, and Nicky also said he has a good feeling, which makes a change. I know they're 9th and 10th but its only .9 at worst from top spot, which is a big improvement which they can hopefully work on.

Nice to see Ben performing again too, I know its practice but still, looks to be where he should be rather than being tailed by RdP!
looking forward to qualifying tomorrow!

Mike

Poor Edwards can't get to grips with that Suter chassis. He should ditch it like Redding did and switch to Kalex.
Good to see Spies manhandling the Yamaha in a confident fashion.
Anyone see the onboard from Vale's bike? I know a nervy rider when I see one....Wonder if he was 23 again... Thinking He'd be ragging it onto the podium...or crashing.

BTW
I love Cal Crutchlow. Exciting racer, and appears semi-normal.

wonder when Ducati are going to roll out the new engine with reduced V angle and made of 'softer' materials, rather than still used the engine designed to be a stressed member... seems to have all gone quiet on that front.

The thing is, is that if Ducati manage to sort this bike, we're not going to see Rossi instantly back on top.

He'll have to learn the changes, re-learn the bike, and rebuild his confidence in the bike. This will all take time.

I honestly believe he'd be up there if he hadn't had his big crash and broken his leg.

That in my opinion will weigh on his mind so late in his career and quieten his win it or bin it attitude down.

Not only that but the Simoncelli crash as well.

I think if he can get a couple of good races/qualifying then him and the team would have their confidence back

Quote:
Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) 9th (1:38.059)

"The day wasn’t bad in the end. We’re on the third row, 0.8 seconds behind pole position, and we’re matching the pace of the intermediate group, after the top four. We’ve worked better this weekend, steadily making small improvements, and now I’m able to ride closer to the limit and push harder on the bike. We have a lot of work to do, especially on acceleration, where we’re losing time, but for sure it’s our best session so far. Tyres will be important, because the soft is difficult to manage to the end, whereas with the hard, it’s very difficult to push in the beginning. We're leaning toward the soft, but we'll wait for tomorrow to decide."

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) 10th (1:38.253)

"Obviously, this isn’t where we wanted to be. I’m one second from the top, which sometimes isn’t that far off, but here I’m in tenth place. All weekend, we just haven’t been able to find that last little bit, as I’ve had a lot of little problems. For whatever reason, we’re not getting the bike to work the tyre properly, and it’s not really gripping the track. I used the same hard tyre the entire morning session, so I thought I'd take more of a step in qualifying. Some of my used tyres still look like new, but they’re just spinning. On a positive note, I went much faster than I did here last year in qualifying."

Might be 9th and 10th but a second covers the top 10. They certainly seem to have made some progress!

Would love to see them sort the Ducati out so the factory boys can be a bit more competetive. Think Rossi himself is looking forward to the upgrades tbh and the fact he's trying to change his riding style and everything show how dedicated he is to them?

Thought it was pretty dull. Cal did well, but no more so than the other riders to be fair. I think the older Rossi/Lorenzo battles on the M1s were much more entertaining, and without Simo there's no punch a hole through regardless style riding.

Also when did Bautista learn how to go a race without crashing?

Moto2 much more entertaining IMO.

Also getting really pissed off with people criticising the CRT bikes, noone is pretending they are going to be competitive from the go. It's supposed to be a work in progress that in a couple of seasons will be evened out. But signing a big name rider to a CRT rather than a factory won't happen in the foreseeable future, so even if the technology gets better, the skill level won't be.

Also on a personal level, I don't have sky so no Eurosport anymore, so I have to listen to the shite BBC commentators who get everyone confused and talk a lot of rubbish.

Quote:
Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) 7th

"It went a bit better this time, in the sense that we started from a better base on Friday and we managed to prepare for today over the course of the weekend. I was able to approach the race knowing what to expect from the bike, and I therefore managed to push harder and get a little closer to the limit. The first laps were decent. I moved up a couple of positions and then I maintained a consistent pace, doing times that we expected to do. We must improve on corner exits and on acceleration because right now we’re not able to be as effective as the others due to the fact that we can’t get all of the power to the ground. We have a test tomorrow, and we’ll start working. Anyway, today I even managed to have some fun."

Apparently a radio signal nearby messed up Hayden's ECU meaning it didn't know where it was on the track Laughing

Tweet from Hayden

Quote:
Basically full power in the middle of some corners, no power and lots traction on some straights, no engine break for corners

Good signs but let's see if the new parts can close the gap on the other factory teams
