Yep Stu, MZ 1000S
114bhp and about 90nm torque.
Read a few good reviews and it seems it may be competition for the more sport-tourer end of the market.

Is there any news on this mega BMW thing yet?

It's supposed to be around 150hp, I've seen some distant photos of the prototype in a couple of bike mags but nothing definite yet.

I rode the prototype about 8 years ago when I had an MZ franchise and I have to say it was absolutely brilliant.

Its name then was the Kobra but I am not sure whether they will stick with it.

Anyway, what made this different from other sports bikes was that the rear seat hump carried a tank bag that clipped straight onto the tank similar to a Baglux, and rear soft panniers folded out from under the seat so that you always had carrying capacity for touring and the like and straight sports bike looks otherwise, it really was a complete package.

The handling was superb and it used Ohlins front and rear as standard. The engine certainly had more torque than a comparable V twin at the time. I haven't ridden the latest incarnation, but if they have improved on it since my ride then it will be one to consider.

The Kobra used a TDM850 engine and was only half faired.
The 1000S Was launched in 2000 with a new FI'd parallel twin engine and Marzocchi fork and Sachs shock.
Could be an interesting addition to the likes of the VFR800 and Thunderace family.

That bike looks beautiful, still I think I prefer my old MZ125.

Well now it's just about rinning it's not in bad shape at all. Just need to get it to tick over and maybe stop flooding the engine if that's what's happening. A quick fiddle with the carb should stop the last few leaks. Then she may get a re-spray to tidy her up.

Oh you know what they say about dogs looking like their owners, if dean gets that, well the same could be said for bikes and their owners .
