If I go into a comparison site like moneysupermarket and put my details in for next months renewal, I get, as you'd expect, a load of quotes, starting with quite a few for less than a ton. When I change the bike details to say I've added a new end can, I've added an aftermarket can, like I plan to next month, there's only a single insurer that will quote me, and it's for £9199.08 Shocked

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but surely a couple of bhp and dB difference that a £200 end can will make can't justify a ten grand increase in premium? Maybe I'll just not bother telling anyone about it, put the can on anyway, pay £90 tpft and hang the consequences.

Advice please chaps.

its because you break the comparison site 'rules'

Most insurance company quoting engines specify 'no mods' as a rule for simple online quoting. I bet if you rang the companies you'll find that some if not most will actually cover you, they usually just have to refer it to the underwriter.

The aren't really motorcycle insurance comparison sites, they're car insurance comparison sites that happen to have a list of motorcycles as well.

Insurers seem to be horrified by any modifications. We've even seen some of them moaning about non-OEM tyres (on cars), or winter tyres even when they're the ones specified by the manufacturer!

One of the reasons why I like using eBike is that they have a proper big list of modifications available, and only apply a small loading for them, so you can actually be honest.

I don't mind paying another £2 or thereabouts for listing "Aftermarket screen/fairing/panniers <£500" and "Aftermarket exhaust, no power increase" so that there's no chance of any "Yehbut, you never said..." comeback later.
