Peugeot Speedfight II 100cc cutting out problem

Hello all

Took the wife out for a trial run on our Speedfight II 100cc today before we go off with it on our hols (on the back of our camper van, dont worry Im not going touring on a Speedy!)

About a ten mile run no problems. On the way back it was very low on fuel so I just stuck a couple of quid in and it was fine for the next five miles. Then when flat out on a dual carriageway it died. Just like it had run out of fuel

Pulled over and it was turning over but not firing. Left it for five minutes while I had the obligitory fag and turned it over again and it was trying to go but sounding ropey then it fired.

Drove off another mile down the road and it happened again. Same procedure. Left it a minute or two and it eventually fired up again. another mile or so down the road and we were home.

Took the air filter off as I wondered if there was a blockage but the real reason is this is probably the only thing I know how to take off. It was a bit oily but ok. Stuck it back on and its starting fine now.

Im wondering if its a fuel blockage somewhere. A quick search around the net finds a few others have had similar problems.

Its just come back from the garage where it had a new battery fitted but not a new spark plug or anything else.

Im guessing fuel blockage or electrical. What do you think?

Don't keep talking about a blockage firstly, as people might assoicate you with the pro GPZ500 mechanic in another thread!

Secondly it wouldn't hurt to remove the carb and take it apart to give it a good clean out and check out the fuel line and tap as well. I can't remember if there is an in-line fuel filter on the SF100, but i know they have a Vaccum tap.

The other issue you could have is that it could be the HT coil breaking down. Not an easy thing to test for really, but from what you have said I'm not convinced that the problem is electrical yet.

One thought I had was if it was fuel would it splutter a bit before it died? It was just an immediate cut off

I noticed the other day when I rode it into town to get some bits done and an MOT (first time it had been ridded for weeks) it cut out for a second or two and then kept going so could it have been something on the way out?

I guess all I can do is hand it over to the garage and let them sort it out.
