OK, I know that this will be amusing for most of you, but I must point out that I am being totally serious about this.
So, I have a 4 1/2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
He is very affectionate, loyal, not at all aggressive, and pretty normal in most ways.
BUT......
He never stops farting and fuck me, it really stinks!!!
Now, I have had Staffs before, and yes, I know they fart a lot. My previous staffs farted a lot, and yes, it did stink.
But THIS one, I swear smells like Satan himself has shoved a rotting daemon up his arse or something.
Often, I get up in the morning and the upstairs (he sleeps in the kitchen at night) of my home stinks of dog toffee. I go downstairs expecting to clear up a couple of pounds of festering fudge, but no.........there is no turd!!! he has been in his basket farting all night.
It has got to the point that I don't want to invite anyone round for a brew/beer/whatever, because my home fucking stinks of dog fart!
He is a healthy dog. I was at the vets a few months back for his annual booster jab. The vet commented on what a healthy animal he is.......good teeth, shiny coat, not overweight etc etc.
I told the vet about the problem and he said I should do one of two things..........
1, try adding some pro-biotic yoghurt to his food (I feed him dry food)
2, open a window!!
Well ha ha fucking ha, I thought. Its OK to open a window in summer, but its too bloody cold in winter.
Well I tried the yoghurt trick for a few weeks, but it did absolutely nothing
So, does anyone have any suggestions? SERIOUS suggestions please?
I don't want to get rid of him as he is a great dog with the best temperament you could ever hope for from a dog, but the pong is fucking staggering, quite frankly, and I don't know how much longer I can live with it.
I am sure you are finding this hilarious, but as i said, I am being totally serious about this. Any serious suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.... ____________________ Current......Kawasaki ZZR1200 C2H and Kawasaki ZZR600 E7

oh no, poor little fella! Would a change in diet be worth a try? Maybe to something for sensitive stomachs or the raw-feeding thing some people do?
Probably be wise to introduce any changes slowly if you do try them tho ____________________ smile and be happy. . . .it gets right on everyone's tits! |

I have tried dietary changes. I have tried raw meat, canned (wet) food, and several other different dry foods.
Some gave him the shits, others didnt, but none of them stopped the farting!
He is perfectly happy, with no apparent swelling in his abdomen, and the vet is happy with his health.
I was told exercise helps, but i do walk him every day for at least 30 mins, often over an hour, which he clearly enjoys.
I am out of ideas (and incense sticks) now. ____________________ Current......Kawasaki ZZR1200 C2H and Kawasaki ZZR600 E7

I asked the vet about charcoal biscuits and he advised not to use them too often. They do reduce the noxious gas, but prolonged use kills off the good bacteria in a dogs gut, which is not good for their health. ____________________ Current......Kawasaki ZZR1200 C2H and Kawasaki ZZR600 E7

Feeding a dog small screaming children once every half hour for three months, seems to be a good solution.
Tidies the neighbourhood up, too.

Stonefly.
Change his diet to raw it needs to be a good mix .So chicken beef offal .Whole rabbit's if you can get them.
Give him Raw bone the ribs are good for that size of dog.
No treats or raw hide chews.Eggs on his food couple of times a week and natural greek yogurt.
Barf website is full of info .
That should make it better .Will take a month or so. Invest in a gas mask while your waiting. |

I is no vet, but if I get the farts I'd presume it's due to the food I take. If you feed him Pedigree-style dry food he might be swallowing too much air, which is again topped up by a pint or so of water, again most likely swallowed with air.
Have you tried tinned food, with plenty available at all time so he doesn't rush through it? Should warn you though - I used to have a husky, changed his diet from pedigree to canned; got the worst stinking shits EVER. So, instead in your favour it could change for the worse. But it already sounds like you are at the end of your patience anyway, so give it a go ____________________ Current: 2007 VFR800; Ex: 2001 YZF600R Thundercat

Well there are some pretty good suggestions there...thanks.
He does gulp his food and takes in air. I think this is because he used to be homed with a sibling by the previous owner, and had to compete for food. There is not much i can do about this. I have tried giving him larger amounts of food, and even left the room while he eats, but he still troughs like a pig, and the results was he put on weight and did more shits.
On his recent visit to the vets i asked about expressing his anal gland and he does tend to drag his arse quite a bit. The vet expressed his glands and showed me the result - nothing blocked and the matter expressed onto the tissue was a normal colour and not abnormally smelly.
I do give him raw bones occasionally and it makes little difference, although it does keep his teeth lovely and clean - i even sometimes find white dog turds too - a rarity these days.
I think i may well try the raw meat diet for a while and see if that helps.
I had considered attaching a pilot light just above his arse, but suspect my house would burn down within minutes of lighting it up! ____________________ Current......Kawasaki ZZR1200 C2H and Kawasaki ZZR600 E7

link
It got half way done and then we forgot about it, must get back on it now missus is doing her diploma! It's a while since we wrote that but should give you some idea on our BARF routine. ____________________ Trev, now a biker?

I feed garlic in my food .Also you dont have to feed vitamins if you feed a varied diet which should include veg and some berry's.
I don't follow the barf exactly I am somewhere between the Tom lonsdale and Ian billinghurst. All three of mine are very healthy and don't smell when they fart thank god as the big one's weigh 45 kilo's each.
If the poo is white you have over done it with the bone.
Also if your dog is a hoover feed him in large lumps so he has to chew it whole chicken carcass's big bit's of tripe or meat .It slows them down and makes them think about what and how to eat there food.
You have been given some good info and I hope some of it works for you.
