Hi just wondering if anyone can recommend something durable that doesn't rip too easily or otherwise deteriorate after a few months use.
I was wondering about alternatives like say a canvas sheet or whatever, wondering if anyone has anything good they can recommend that does the job and doesn't fall apart.
The covers I've had so far just rip way too easily and dont seem to take the weather too well.
Main interest is in covering the bikes overnight so they're not visible though.

I've just got an Oxford Rainex, it seems decent but time will tell.

Oxford Rainex for me too - Been using it for the past 4 or 5 months and it seems good enough. Ofcourse, if you can afford £60 for a cover, the Stormex might be a little better Smile No idea though.

Purchased an Oxford Aquatex off ebay last year seems to have done its job well and was only £20 on ebay at the time.

I was going to get an Oxford cover too (£25 from halfords), but then I thought, what difference is there between one of those and a cheap waterproof tarpaulin weighed down by a few blocks?

Yes thats what I was thinking. I've had several covers and they've all ended up torn to shreds in not much time. Just wondering if anyone has found a decent alternative.

Like most things nowadays really, I've noticed most covers seem to be made of ridiculously thin material. Why?

It's not as if materials are that expensive, it doesn't have to be breathable or anything. Problem would be solved if they just used 2mm instead of the silly thin stuff I've seen on nearly all covers.

Thats what I was thinking! A neighbour gave me what looked like a very heavy cover and pricey but that tore very quickly, I think mainly because it was old and brittle. They do seem ridiculously thin when you consider how pointy and hard bikes protrusions tend to be. I find they usually end up ripping on the levers or something.

I have one of these too. It's not that good, mine lets water through. Sad

Must depend on the actual individual product then as mine has been faultless.

I have two bikes - one covered with an Oxford Stormex, one with a Rainex.
The rainex was initially good but then ripped after about 18 months. Definately not as well made. It currently needs regular re-application of gaffa tape.
The stormex I've had for about four years now and other than fading has held up very well.

On both covers the plastic clip which holds straps together underneath the bike broke. I just tie a bit of rope underneath and over the seat.
Bear in mind I have no garage so the covers are used all year round, and we get plenty of wind and rain here in the Isle of Man.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get a larger bike cover than necessary to help avoid tearing it? It's still thin material but you won't struggle to pull it over all the protrusions.

I have an oxford aquatex. Very happy with it. bought it last July and still going strong. it has withstood some very high winds that blew down fence panels and caused other damage, but the aquatex went the distance. If this one ever becomes damaged, i will have no hesitation buying another to replace it

I've had an Oxford Stormex for the last 3 years and it's still going strong. Easy to fit and has a nice soft inner lining and it won't melt on your exhaust when fitting it onto your bike. £60 to buy, but it'll last years. Great waterproof properties.
