You need to check with your insurer which alarms they accept to give you with discount since not all insurers recognize all alarms.

Swinton may assume that you have an minimum security already. Always check the fine print and check the website.
Insurance is a farce, no consistency and they'll nail you any chance they get.
Yes, you could probably ask for policy details in advance of purchase since they may require you to provide a copy of your license and any no claims proof as part of the contract and to make it valid.
Look on the FAQs section of any website you use. It should provide these sort of details so that you are prepared to ask for cover from the policy such as security, overnight parking, use, etc.

Get your facts right before you speak to them.

You get a 14day cooling off period were you cancel it, so if you don't agree to the terms, get a refund.

thats true but then you have the hastle of waiting for them to arrive, checking them over and if they're incorrect you have to cancel it. i'd rather ensure everything is as it should be prior to commiting

They should email them to you, which can take 24-48hours, unless you press them to do it quicker - which they will.

now thats true, i think i will make a recording of any and all phone calls to them when i go through the policy details and get a copy sent to me prior to handing over any money.

then if they cock it up i'll hit em hard and hit em fast with the hammer of justice!

Any non-Thatcham approved alarm should take it down a bit. I'm on my second Cyclone (two seperate bikes, so no worries about alarm failure), and it took a few quid off both times.

one last silly question.

MOT - bike first registered in JAN 2011 so would its first MOT be due in 2014?

Just me, but i'd rather pay a few more quid on my insurance than cope with the sheer rage i get when an alarm renders my bike unuseable and ear-splittingly antisocial with no warning.

They're not hard to fit, and are cheap, so they ticked all the necessary boxes to my mind.
