Has anyone on here got one / had one?

What is the fuel consumption like?

What is it like for a long, heavy traffic commute?

Is the seating postion as upright as it looks (I have read otherwise)?

I guess, what is it like to live with generally..

Had a tiger 955i. I know they are chalk and cheese when next to a speed triple, but the triple engine was fantastic, and very good on fuel. Especially when you consider the weight of the tiger models.

Appreciate the different models, but thanks for the comparison Thumbs Up

Anyone else got any advice/info to offer?

Uncle had one, reckoned the front wheel was a pointless accessory.

Not much help I know but fun and comfy was his general opinion of it.

Compared to modern engines I find the 955 ones heavy, agricultural and very clunky. Even compared to similar aged Japanese engines theyre pretty old fashioned.

Heavy, quite cumbersome bikes I thought.

Unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to the 1050.
I've sold my bike (completing the transaction on Sunday) and with a bit of savings added to the kitty I should have about £2k to play with.

I'm coming from an SV, so I'm sure the the engine will feel smooth in comparison.

Comfy and fun is what I'm looking for.

I'd love an older 955i as I prefer the styling compared to the 1050. However, I rarely hear of high mileage 955i's... their engines do not appear to be as strong as they should be, not sure what part but I hear of more engine failures than japanese competition for similar cc / style machines.

They sound a bit agricultural, but are as smooth as butter when actually riding. The F.I. systems are a bit 'French' in that Triumph had umpteen remaps of the ECU to smooth out low speed running and hicups when opening the throttle hard. But, a free download from the net (TuneECU) and a cheap lead to connect ECU to your laptop means you can use better maping or even play yourself.
Once dialled in properly, they are an exhillerating ride.
Brakes are as good as you get.
A bit 'slow' in the handling department, but unflustered on our cratered roads.
Get one while you can still afford it, they are rapidly increasing in S/H values.

I liked mine right up until I took it for a service and they gave me a 1050 courtesy bike.

Which I then bought. Rolling Eyes

Brakes were always a bit hit and miss in my experience, you'd ride one and the brakes would be brilliant, you'd ride another and they'd be awful. Didn't keep mine long enough to determine if it was a maintenance issue or if some were just better than others. The FI on mine was extremely French and it had an ongoing argument with the throttle position sensor. Was nice as a London commuter though, a far better riding position and steering lock for weaving around stuff.

Get the pink one cos its ridiculous. Cool

Thanks for the info on the ECU.
I can ask owners when I go to view if they have had this done already. If not, it doesn't sound like much trouble to sort it out my self to be honest.

Bendy, I don't quite think I could get away with the 'Nuclear Red' as well as you. Laughing
