So the wood arrived this morning (later than I was hoping for but oh well) which I'd ordered last week. I had planned to finish off the bike shelter I was making whenever I got round to it, and decided since I'd sold the Lifan the money would go towards making my CB safer.

I origionally had the roof made with corrugated plastic, and one corner support. Two side corners were resting on the wall and the opposite side corners were higher up, one propped off a wall as well. It was ok for keeping the rain off (except the sideways rain we often get) but I didn't like the way my bike was on display to all passers by.

Here's what I've done so far: (note; I still need a bit more wood to finish the door...)

As soon as I can get a couple more lengths of 'shiplap' from the timber store I will. It's not too easy to carry on the bike though. What I might do is just carry it back; the place I got it from is only about 5 minutes walk away.

Thanks! Making bike shelters is thirsty work, but it was really nice weather yesterday.

I was told it was all treated and fine as is (by the timber yard I got it from, was a tad wet when I got it though.) I was going to just leave it as is, but I know wood too well, so I will be putting something like Ronseal or Sadolin on it, as it'll look nicer and be more weather proof.

Luckily we've had a decent dry spell round here which is set to continue into early next week when my days off are. By then, the wood should have dried out a decent amount, and I'll spooge some sadolin on it. Gotta love the smell of a fresh tin. Smells like victory.. or something.

lol - it looks like its been freshly treated to me probably tanalith e, unless its some ancient back alley dodgy treatment works they have. should be good for the first year. - i just work in a sawmill though dont take my word for it ..Very Happy

Any hoo, wanted to ask as you have pitched the roof towards that embankment is there a fairly good run off for water or is there potential for it to get in alongside the bike? or is there a length of gutter in there to run the water to an end and away from all that nice new construction?

cheers

Malky

As it's already against two walls, the left and back, I've only done the other two walls. The end of the roof is just short of the wall, so any rain run off goes into the gutter that runs along the side/back of the concrete section. I don't think I would, but if I ever enclosed it completely (there's a large hole at the back which is good for ventilation) I'd add some guttering on the lowest side. I may be adding some more finishing touches to it at a later date, but for now it's good and weather proof and nicely hides my bike from view behind a padlock so I'm happy with it.
