I just got a fine for parking my bike without paying for a ticket, but I didn't know I had to (there was a motorcycle bay somewhere free for motorcyclists). It was a windy day and I didn't know where I could have put that ticket, so I am asking ya'll. Where do yo slot your tickets? Some tickets don't have a sticky back.

That's a really good question. I honestly don't think I've parked anywhere that hasn't been free! I guess if you've got a tank bag they sometimes has transparent windows to put things in. If not.. trap it in the break lever or something?

But you did pay for a ticket didn't you. Someone has obviously stolen it. Those bastards.

Unless there is CCTV...then you didn't buy one.

you could go to court and argue your case. I someone who did that when they got a fine for parking in a disabled space but they succesfully argued that the markings on the road were indistinct.

Put it nipped in the brake lever or on the screen if sticky. Take a quick snap of it in place if you have a cameraphone with the time and date visible just in case. Thumbs Up

I got a fine for not having a ticket in a council car park and argued that it had blown off the dash an into the passenger footwell. It worked but I think you'd only get away with it once with the council.

I'm prepared to challenge it as it wasn't really made clear, so im just reading up on it. I didn't know that there was a 'free motorcycle bay' at a DIFFERENT car park until after he told me. I told him that it was quite windy and that there was no where else to place the ticket without it blowing away. He just said "You have to pay to park here".

Don't you have to then show the ticket after to play this card? My parents parked two cars in the same car park but only had one ticket, when the other car got the fine they challenged it with the ticket they had and it was cancelled

Is it from an enforcement company on private land?

As far as I am aware if it is you can pretty much ignore it.

Elastic band on your grips. Easy.

Although I didn't buy a ticket once, claimed the wind blew it off, got waived.

I find it difficult knowing where to park half the time!
in a car park. if there isnt a designated motorbike area park in a parking bay and pay?
if there is a designated area for motorbikes is it free?
Can we park on pavement? if there is enough space for civilian to pass
Sometime I park my bike where the cyclist area with chain bars.

I once parked on the side road and some idiot parked right next to me and boxed me in. I had to mount the pavement to get out

That.

You haven't been "fined", only a court can do that. You've been issued with a penalty charge notice, which is simply a demand for payment.

How seriously you take it entirely depends on the ability of the person making the demand to collect it. Councils have it pretty easy, private firms have essentially no chance unless you do something daft.

This.

If it's a cowboy firm (read: UKPC, Parking Eye, Euro Car Parks, etc) then ignore the 20 letters they send you and wait for it all to blow over. They can not legally enforce the charge.

*Did you know that the debt collection companies/bailiffs that send the threatening letters on the cowboy-parking-company's behalf are actually OWNED by the cowboy-parking-companies? Interesting that.*

If it's Council then appeal - you did buy a ticket, somebody must have nicked it, it must have blown away, whatever. They'll let you off.

Next time, either hunt a specific motorcycle bay, hunt a place where there's a cluster of motorcycles all parked together, or park next to a car within their parking space if there's room. A lot of people don't know the latter rule, but basically in any car park a motorcycle is allowed to share a car space with a car.

Parking in Aberdeen is pretty easy going. It seems as long as your not on the main drag and not obstructing pedestrians then you can park anywhere. Seems not al places are this easy about Moto parking though.

There is even a designated Moto parking space right in the centre of town. Trouble is that some jerk with a stupid great trike sometimes parks there and takes up the whole space.

Really? How can you tell?

Councils control the street parking and private companies control car parks, like mall car parks and "Euro car parks"? If so I might just stop paying for tickets.

As has been said, if it's not a council-operated car park, then just ignore it.

Any signage that's on display at the site will tell you who the administrative body is.

Some have touched on it, some have it correct, some semi correct.

PPCs (private parking companies) cannot "fine" you. Only a court or a council can do that. Is the ticket from a council?

Even if it is, check the council website for bike parking, do you feel they have enough? Is it close enough to the area you were visiting? Councils have been instructed to ensure they provide enough, lack of can be a reason to apeal.

If it is council, read up on pepipoo, load the pics of the ticket with personal details removed (both sides, many of the tickets have mistakes in the blurb) and someone will help you

I usually hunt for a Motorbike area, then dump it there for free. If there isn't one and I use a car space, I pay.

Or if its one of those idiot barrier car parks, I have a look if I can ride out the pedestrian exit or scoot around the exit barrier before entering, hence not paying anything.

I have always found most councils have motorcycle parking info on their websites, I just search Motorbike Parking in Gloucester for instance, and up it comes with the areas.

Eh, sort of, and only most councils in England and Wales - buggered if I know which ones haven't signed up yet.

In the sense that they're been given the green light to enforce their own decisions, yes, that's probably all that matters in the real world.

But they do still call them "penalty charges" as per the Traffic Management Act 2004. It's like a separate Justice System Lite running alongside the real one, with slightly different words, like "adjudicator" instead of "judge", "tribunal" instead of "court" and "traffic contravention debt" instead of "fine".

Gives me the proper dry heaves, it does. Sick

Don't you know camera evidence is only allowed in criminal proceedings, not civil.

After they send you a letter demanding payment, just send back a cease and desist on the grounds of intimidation. They tend to drop it after that, else they are liable for criminal prosecution Laughing

Check this out, they also have lots of templates for letters;
