I remember my nan always having a block of ice cream and it seemed old fashioned, even then. However, I decided to purchase one and cutting a 'slice' of ice cream is certainly more civilised than rummaging about in a plastic tub. Goes perfect with a nice slice of cake and I would imagine for dropping in to a glass of lemonade. The cardboard packaging folds up and into the recycling with out the bulk of platic too. Consider it, if you will.

At first I thought you said "a slice of ice cream is certainly more civilised than rummaging about in a plastic tub"

I didn't realise that such delights were still available. I've not noticed blocks of ice cream since forever ago. I'll be on the look-out from now on Thumbs Up

Always a favorite as a kid, now wondering how it can have "classic" and "new recipe" on the box. I am most upset.

We used to get sent out to the ice-cream van to buy a block, If they had some we would get Neapolitan! Used to be perfect to fit between a pair of wafers. Smile

I was just about to have some at about 4pm this afternoon and make a thread about eating the stuff in the afternoon............... with some of the cake my daughter baked at school today.
But then I found the takeaway menu and thought of tea time.

You used to be able to buy cones that were rectangular at the top so you could cut a slice and slide it into the cone rather than pratting about with scoops and the like.

It does seem that certain things progress and take us backwards. Confused

Used to have those rectangular cones from our ice cream man, and you'd get a mini block of the aforementioned Wall's Cornish wrapped in paper to stick in it.

That's how we still buy most of our ice cream in Finland. Sadly, more and more, it's being packed into Haagen Dazs type containers, as it 'looks more modern'.

It's just so much easier to take a portion than e.g. Haagen Dazs where you need to thaw almost the entire container to take a few scoops.

That's not Tufty The Squirrel, star of the ad campaign that traumatised a generation of small children is it?

This makes me feel so guilty. I have never had just "a few scoops" out of a Haagen Daz and then put the rest back Embarassed

Well, you can't, as you shouldn't put melted ice cream back into the freezer.

I like ice cream partially melted too.

Get a few bourbon biscuits, or chocolate digestives, stick them in a bag and smash them against the counter a few times till they get all powdery.

Mix with vanilla ice cream.

NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM

LOL!!!

70's kids campaigns were so brutal! Tiny Cornish's school gets lots of 'awareness' type talks from friendly policemen and who give them stickers. We had to see Tufty getting squidged, fingers being blown off by fireworks and kids getting hacked to bits on the railway lines while we were eating our tea Laughing
