Ordered one of them hard drive readers that plug directly into the hard drive taken from laptops/personal computers etc, as my laptop broke the other day and needed to get my music/photos/films etc off.

Anyway, my wife had 2 old laptops from before I knew her and before she threw them away I decided it was worth keeping hold of the hard drives just in-case in the future I might be able to get the stuff off them.

Well, connected this new snazy little gizmo and out come about 10 years of old digital photo's that she'd completely forgotten about, and her old music collection which included albums she'd forgotten about but used to listen to all the time. Pretty cool!!

I just remembered I have an old laptop in my parents attic that has a heap of photo's and films (old porn), on there that I haven't seen in a while... Result!!

I would recommend this gizmo to anyone. If anyone's interested and has an old hard drive they want to retrieve data from then i'll post a link to it.

Happy days.

Cool

Yeah I have two shitty IDE laptop hard drives that I have no connectors for and haven't got round to finding something to do the job, if this things cheaper might be better suited, links ahoy.

Not sure if this is exactly what the OP was talking about, but I have one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-SATA-IDE-CABLE-HDD-POWER-ADAPTER-/280879306057?pt=UK_Computing_Drive_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4165b61549#ht_1833wt_1274

It'll turn any hard drive into a USB drive. be it PATA or SATA, 2.5" or 3.5".

£6.95
